Wow, just wow. It is becoming more and more clear that Nissan was really overstretching when they built this. A car of that level (or any for that matter) should NOT be having all the issues the GT-R has had. What a worthless POS. Gearbox failure, Engine failure, everything is insanely overpriced (bumper, hood, engine, etc?)... Should have bought a Porsche/Corvette/NON-Nissan.

This guy has a few mods and was running a tune for 97 octane on the PON/AKI scale (Average of RON & MON). The gas he actually put in it was 98 octane on the RON scale. 98 RON ~ 93 PON/AKI.

That is not even CLOSE to being Nissan's fault. First of all it was modded to run more boost, perhaps half assedly done. Second of all he wasn't running anywhere near the proper octane of fuel. The cost of the engine is outrageous I agree, but it's not Nissan's fault this dumbass blew it up. Same thing would've happened in any engine. If this guy thinks he's got pushrods he's not a very sharp pencil.

$20 says he isnt telling the whole story, and moneyshifted it

I don't think they make those in 6 speed manual, unless he did that with the DSG gearbox, idk how you could but it might be possible.

55K sounds about the price of the gallardo motor we put in at work.

When we were at Switzers he was confident in his 700 wheel package(like $20k or something crazy) has no problems. They had a car there that was basically daily driven and had like 8-9k miles on it with that current setup and perfect. Its weird that stock cars are self destructing and other 6-700 wheel cars are running perfect

Knock sensors FTL. From reading through the forum it looks as though it suffered the same failure the EURO recall cars suffer from. Sure looks like Nissan's fault to me.

There is a lot of misinformation out there (including this thread). Yes, motors are incredibly expensive right now, but nowhere near $55k. Tym just bought one from Japan for a customer for approx $28k US. The customer blew it up on a Haltech pushing too much boost throught he stock turbos. There are a lot of average shops out there trying to tune these cars that don't understand the specific limits of the GTR. Tym hasn't had a single problem with his 15 700whp kits to date...except for one clutch pack that was his first R&D car that was purposely run hard to find the limits. And he already has the fix for it. Give it time, these cars will be reliable at over 900hp within 6-12 months. The tranny should be reliable too...but at a cost of about $10k for these hp levels. They are not cheap cars to properly modify....but about the same as you would pay for a similar modded 996/997.
