thorne
looks like you need special tools.
Xyster101
I have not heard of people doing this themselves. Usually you have to send it to a shop to have it done. With the thing spinning over 10,000 RPM, it has to be perfect or it will just blow up again.
Rally Pat
You have an 18g right? C-clip pliers are the only tool you might not have I can think of that you need.
uzuk
most turbos spin closer to 100k rpm under boost. bb turbos spin even faster. the rotating assembly (compressor, turbine and common shaft) need to balanced as a whole. Diesel shops have this equipment although im sure its not cheap to have done.
Guest Removed
i wouldnt hand a diesel shop a performance turbo for them to build it..unless they have done it many many times with success. bill just upgrade the damn turbo
TTQ B4U
I agree....if mine ever goes, I will most certainly not just replace it. Time for an upgrade. Just don't blow up the rest of the motor when doing so bill just upgrade the damn turbo
neonkiller
Send it to Majestic turbos in Texas. /End thread.
Comebackkid
What I've seen done and heard when rebuilding a turbo, Is mark the nut on the compresser wheel and as long as it's just a bad seal everything should be good. But if any of the wheels are touching the housing's then I would send it out and get fixed.
ImUrOBGYN
Send it to Majestic turbos in Texas. /End thread. Great place. Also, where my turbo comes from. There's also PT. http://turbocharged.com/main.htm Many 7m people have their turbos rebuilt/upgraded from there. One of the cheapest I've dealt with and are reliable. What I've seen done and heard when rebuilding a turbo, Is mark the nut on the compresser wheel and as long as it's just a bad seal everything should be good. But if any of the wheels are touching the housing's then I would send it out and get fixed. I haven't rebuilt one myself, but have heard this same thing. Bill, if you do decide to take it on, feel free to bring it by if there's nobody to help you. I have access to a couple pretty good writeups though I'm sure you can probably find some yourself; even subie related, maybe.
