BlackMess
Would this classify as a good engine to chassis ground...Lettuce Discuss... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v704/hiitsmejimmy/rx7064.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v704/hiitsmejimmy/rx7066.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v704/hiitsmejimmy/rx7067.jpg
Tripleskate
I expected humour related to someone's pants being on the ground when I read the title. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v95/qtip58/Pics/son_i_am_disappoint.gif

KillJoy
It looks hacked. That is something I would expect to see on a car that a lot of shortcuts were taken on or that was rushed together. Definate "Shadetree Mechanic" quality. :thumbdown KillJoy

BlackMess
Where did it come from? Well, It came off a car! I'm sure you can take a stab at the producers of this quality of work!
koolrayz
While those are a quality industrial style connector that should work just fine,,,,, it does look pretty bad.
Mattsv8
wow one whole wire would have been too expensive?
Guest Removed
steve the term is "backyard hacks" 1 piece of new cable, and 2 ends....come on. nice connectors, ok lay out, poor execution Edited March 18, 2010 by Removed
Brandon
While those are a quality industrial style connector that should work just fine,,,,, it does look pretty bad. Wasn't their heat shrink over the connectors?
BlackMess
There was a piece of electrical tape over the butt connector but not over the terminal ends, luckily I took off the electrical tape to see that the wire on the head was much larger then the other end and didn't quite fit into the butt conenctor and was badly frayed. I have some 4ga wire on the way and will get a new cable made soon!
BlackMess
Wasn't their heat shrink over the connectors? I got 5 ft of 4ga wire, terminals, solder, and some heat shrink for around $25.00. That wire should have NEVER been made with scraps you had laying around the shop. Not much to ask for. Guest 614Streets
How about you do two things. First. Grab your Ohm Meter. Grab the wire you are going to replace it with. How much resistance is there end to end on both wires? Two. After a tug test , do a voltage drop test by hooking the cable to a battery + and then the multimeter to the end of the cable and battery ground. I am not defending the shop , just saying you may have more support if you show more bullets.

If a picture says a thousand words, that one speaks volumes. KillJoy

KillJoy there will be a difference of atleast .2 volts due to the splice on a voltage drop test in that cable
BlackMess
OHM Old- .5 New- .3 Well the cable failed wills tug test, but heres what I got. Voltage Battery- 11.79 Cable- 11.76 Do I pass?
Guest 614Streets
OHM Old- .5 New- .3 Well the cable failed wills tug test, but heres what I got. Voltage Battery- 11.79 Cable- 11.76 Do I pass? Acceptable voltage drop is .4 volts but thats with a load in the circuit , so the voltage drop test I posted earlier isnt really accurate unless the wire was in operation in a circuit. BlackMess
So we both fail?
Guest 614Streets
Perhaps classified as a working ground but not a perfect cable? The one cable in the picture looks frayed at the cable end. Cosmetically challenged. You did say fail the tug test.
BlackMess
Yea one side appears to be 4ga. or 6ga. butt connectored to an 8ga.wire and it doesn't fit. But yea it failed the tug test on the thicker cable that was frayed. So I suppose you pass, but the cable did not!
