Guest tbutera2112
what could cause a clunk at low speeds or at a stop when turning the wheel? it doesnt do it while moving more than 10mph or so.... im uploading a video with a sound clip in it car is an 04 saab 9-3 ...fwd these cars are known for eating up springs, and the dealership extended the warranty on it to 10yr 120k miles, and has been fixing them with upgraded shit last i looked though, they looked fine...im about to go raise it up and look again, but what else should i be looking for? would it be best to just take it up to MAG and tell them i think the springs/struts/seats are all taking a shit and have them replace it all? i need to have my aux in port turned on with tech II anyways, so i need to make a trip

ForeverMaker
You may need a steering rack spacer. Does it happen over a bump at all?
Guest tbutera2112
nope...the only time i hear the clunk is when stopped or moving very slowly and turning the wheel...
Guest tbutera2112
clunking sound...heard best near beginning and 40 second mark...outside the car vid was drowned out by the engine sounds

Guest tbutera2112
CV noise can be deceiving.....Ask me about it. your thread is what made me think to check the CV joints...the boots look fine, i mean, i guess the joints could still be bad...but ive never heard of them going bad at 80k miles without ever having a boot get torn or ripped
Putty
Ya, Rob said my boots are fine. I still have a bunch of unexplained grease that was on the inside of my wheel. I had to take the wheel off and fill a bucket with Dawn to clean. It was so thick I pitched the towels I used to wipe. He says that boot is good though...da fuk that grease come from?
Guest tbutera2112
mines the opposite, no grease at all...thats what makes me think its not the cv joints
STEVE-O
I would get the springs looked at at mag. We replace them all thie time and there are over 40 different combos of springs they put on those cars so sometimes even if it has been fixed once they could put the wrong ones on the car.. Next if you put your hand on the shaft does it have play in it like up and down or anyting??? does it only make the sound when the car is on the ground or up in the air also??? I am willing to bet it is the shaft but you could always have them double check it when you take it in for the springs
Guest tbutera2112
the shafts are tight...no play in any direction, and the car doesnt make the noise while its lifted off the ground (i have the whole front lifted now and on stands, instead of just one side like in the pics)
Farkas
CV joints click when they're bad.. So no. Tie rods? Hub bearing bolt/nut? Control arm bushings? Strut mount bearings? Upper strut mounts?
Guest tbutera2112
great now theres a huge puddle under my car....theres fluid coming out of the power steering reservoir big time... would turning the wheel like that with the car in the air and shut off make it overflow or something? it wasnt leaking before, and i havent done anything but move the wheel back and forth
Guest tbutera2112
maybe it had too much fluid and the angle of the jackstands caused it to overflow? i wiped it all down, and fired up the car and letting it run, turning wheels, revving, etc...nothing else is leaking... fuck this car man

Bam
Ok, well another thing to look at is sway bar links and bushings. As well as control arm bushings. I know my gf's contour was making a clunk at low speed and it was the front sway bar end link. GL
Guest tbutera2112
ok ill go check that stuff out...thanks and its done leaking...i had an "oh shit" moment where i thought something got fucked up...guess it had too much fluid in it from when i put the new pump in, this is the first time its been lifted since then
