And it's funny they call this the 'green' Google because it might save a few mWhr per search. From what I understand Google is a leader in server farm efficiency and they are the most efficient out there. They are also pouring money into R&D for technologies that will have real effects on our power use, like smart grids.

Man, I thought this was gonna be some sort of joke or something. I can see me telling my mixed/black friends, "No no no! You shouldn't use google anymore! You should use BLACKLE!" lol

This. But the pixels aren't 'on' right?

Are the pixels driven when the are 'on' or 'off'? i.e. are the naturally closed (black) or open (white)?

They are still on. It actually uses more energy to produce a black pixel.

Also, their servers are likely not nearly as energy efficient as Googles, who run some of theirs off hydro power and other sources.

This is actually WORSE fyi. All it is is a gimmick to make the site owner money.

Not any greener than any other site unless they run their servers on goat cheese or farts or something. But great for you eyes if you google all day... i usually invert my display when my eyes get tired and i need a break from all the bright colors
