Stallion Motorsports1647545491
driving around over the weekend in my 98 accord, 165k miles, i noticed the check engine light come on. no issues driving, just the damn light. pulled the codes, came up with egr failure, and catalytic converter error codes. great. ripped the egr valve off, cleaned it up, reset the cel, and drove it for a day. light back on instantly. same codes. you guys thinking i should try and replace the egr valve? or just put black tape over the light? jk tom
staywide8
Clean the egr ports in the manifold. Usually comes on due to insufficient flow.

Usually comes on due to insufficient flow. ^^^ this is correct, its common in the v6 accord/odyssey. There's a TSB describing the problem which calls for drilling the egr passage in the intake and inserting a special tube, the kit is pricey. My wife's accord had the issue and I simply cleared the passageway with an appropriately sized drill bit. It's been over two years now without a return of the code. You'll need to remove the intake manifold, it's not too bad. I reused the gaskets without an issue.
99FLHRCI
Sea Foam or a similar product poured into the tube in small amount will help loosen/break up the carbon.
