hpfiend
As the title says, has anyone on here actually heard a 3" stroke 4" bore chevy 302 like in the 67 camaro z28? Does it sound like a ford 302 or 5.0 HO?
twistedfocus1647545489
Edit: just actually understood what you're asking. I have heard a few. I wouldn't say they sounded like a Ford 5.0 to me, but that probably has alot to do with firing order and the exhaust being different. RUTAN TA1647545492
302dz, It still sounds like a sbc bc of the firing order
BDHG940
I dont think it really sounds similar, my dads all have stock exhaust and I dont think it sounds anything like the ford

Patterson
Four inch bore, three inch stroke 327 block, 283 crank, 5.7 rods. They were screamers. The cam was a solid lifter, 254/254 @.050, and .485 lift, 114 lsa.
hpfiend
thanks guys- that's what I thought but the ls motors have the same firing order of the 5.0 HO (IIRC) and they don't sound like it either. The weird thing is the ohc 4.6 sounds similar to the 302 so maybe it is more of a factor of exhaust design.
Nickey4271647545519
yes chevy made a 302, pretty insane little small block, rated at 290hp from the factory but was actually closer to a 400hp motor. Could turn 7500-8000rpm with a stock 302.
Clifford Automotive
Yep. It was used only in First Gen Camaros.

Sounds amazing. lol thats all they're shifting at? lol jk But on a serious, back in the late 80's there was a guy that would come up to pacemakers a couple time a year with his 68 z/28, claimed to have 35k in the motor, which is insane. All i know is that it was a de-stroked 302 obviously with alot of other work done to it. Motor could spin 14k rpm all day long. Guy ran a moroso 12.5k cable tach for awhile but he always pegged it.... so he got rid of it.

ICEMAN1647545504
Car local? I would love to her is scream. Yeah, the car is local. The guy lives in Thornville and the motor is for sale. He is a good friend of mine. The motor is built to go up to 13,000, but it eats valve springs like crazy at that RPM. Thats the only bad thing about these motors. They wear out the valve springs quick.
hpfiend
awesome! 680 hp out of 282 cubic inches naturally aspirated is quite impressive! I would like to see the power curve- with 6.50:1 rear gear I bet that baby has no low end at all. Where do they run the SS/DM series so I can watch these guys? Soooo much win! 18k is CHEAP for a super stock top end. These motors are amazing since they work within such a limited rule base. That is why if you don't know what the fuck you are doing it is best to not even try to run one of these classes.

There was a Buckeye Stock/Super Stock series this summer at different tracks. You can go to any NHRA Divisional Points Meet and see them run along with the big race at Norwalk if they are in the rotation to be there. Now if you want to see something that will really get your panties wet go check out Nostalgia Pro Stock cars
