Battery relocation

I'm relocating the battery to the rear in the Trans Am and trying to see if anyone of all these f-body guys knows of a sealed and vented box for the battery that fits in the spare tire well. I have an optima battery and thought that I could go with a BMR style box but that doesn't seem to be the approved way at the track.

I am interested in this too. I would like to relocate the battery on my Integra so, it will be inside the cabin just like a F-body.

i could be wrong here but if you move the battery to the rear of the car dont you have to have a battery on/off switch on the rear bumpper if you wanna run at the track?

most sanctioning bodies will ask you have that, I just got the jegs sealed battery box but i cant comment on whether it fits in a f body spare tire well.

an optima is a sealed battery so no box is needed and yes it does have to ahve an on off swith on the back of the car, make sure you lable "on and off"

screw ls1 tech and call a track/look on a track website to figure it out?

Per NHRA/IHRA rules it must be in a box.

please specify weather or not its becasue it is an open cab or if its diff cuz I have a build fire wall

 

becasue I have never been flagged for the batt in my truck with no box

It's open, there are no firewall between the driver and the rear where the battery is. It would only be tucked behind an interior panel.

I've been thinking of doing the same thing myself. I've gotten as far as grabbing a spare tail light I can drill through for the external switch. Keep us updated on what you find for a battery box.

Rear firewall of .024-inch (.6 mm) steel or .032-inch (.8 mm) aluminum (including package tray) required when battery is re-located in trunk. In lieu of rear firewall, battery may be located in a sealed .024-inch (.6 mm) or .032-inch (.8 mm) aluminum, or FIA accepted poly box. If sealed box is used in lieu of rear firewall, box may not be used to secure battery, and must be vented outside of body. Strapping tape prohibited. A maximum of two automobile batteries, or 150 pounds (68 kg) combined maximum weight (unless otherwise specified in Class Requirements) is permitted. Metal battery hold-down straps mandatory. Hold-down bolts must be minimum 3/8-inch (9.53 mm) if battery is relocated from stock and other than stock hold-downs are used ("J" hooks prohibited or must have open end welded shut.).
