Is there a way to revert it back to stock/default what ever you want to call it aka brand new? If i can do this how? Also if this can be done, how would i burn some files onto a disc.( i have a burner but only burnt music never a file)

AWW$HEEET
paul, you need to reload the OS. save all the shit you want off of it, then wipe it clean, and start over. i can help you do it if you need.
SRTurbo04
do i need the disc to restart it? i cant find the dam disc(if i even had one this computers a few years old)
jeffro
if gabe falls through, paul, ill help you out. Your computer may have a recovery partition that will allow you to reinstall windows with a clean slate. This would be easiest as drivers would be an issue without this partition or restore CD. What operating system are you running? Ive got an XP and windows 7 disk that can be used. Also, who is the manufacturer of your machine? As for the files, burning files to disks is easy. Step 1:insert blank CD into your CD drive. Step 2:Drag and drop files wanting to be saved to D:\ in my computer (note: you can only put 700MB of junk on a standard CD. Id suggest a DVD if you have a DVD burner) Step 3:Select burn files to disk. done.
SRTurbo04
jeffrey it is xp an its a dell from like 2006
AWW$HEEET
Well, you can do a couple things. Personally, I would just wipe it, but it will require the disc. You can call dell and request a new one. You could restore to a previous point, but I prefer to just wipe it. IMO its the better option, but its your call. Sturg1647545502
If you've the bank to spare you might want to invest in an external hard drive. you can get them pretty cheap at micro center and it would save you the hassle of burning disks. jeffro
jeffrey it is xp an its a dell from like 2006 ok, got you there, drivers can be pulled off dell.com Well, you can do a couple things. IMO its the better option, but its your call. +1 on wiping it. alot of times doing a restore doesnt fix any registry errors caused by malicious software/viruses. Gabe, Im not so sure they do that anymore. from what i understand people were taking the restore cd's and misusing them, hence the reason computers no longer come with restore disks, but restore partitions instead. check your "my computer" and see if you have a restore/recovery partition paul. If you've the bank to spare you might want to invest in an external hard drive. you can get them pretty cheap at micro center and it would save you the hassle of burning disks. i have one you can use for the transition. gabe, this is yours since you offered first, so im out. Also if this can be done, how would i burn some files onto a disc.( i have a burner but only burnt music never a file) I would get a flash drive from microcenter/wally world (cheap) and load all your "files" onto it, then DBAN that motherfucker (http://www.dban.org/). I got an legit XP disk that your welcome too if you want it, I can make a copy of DBAN if needed too. Is your comp. a desktop or a lappy? AWW$HEEET
If you restore to a previous state, it will remove the virus. That being said, you can "go forward" in time too when you pick a previous state, and the virus would still be there. Thats why the "best" option is to wipe it, because this eliminates all doubt. acklac7
also keep in mind that if you decide to do a fresh-install of XP you'll need to set aside about 4+ hours as you will have to continually authorize all of the security updates...PITA. thorne
Instead of burning disks goto microcenter and buy a couple of 2-4gig thumb drives. I would honestly consider upgrading . for 450$ I built new pcs for IPS with Windows 7 pro and SSD's

So I'm getting mixed opinions here can I or can I not do this without a disc because I don't think I ever had one? Also reverting it back won't work cause the computers been slow for like a year but I've been too lazy to fix it :lol/: Also this is my desktop

acklac7
Also this is my desktop When was the last time you took it apart and cleaned the processor cooling fan? If you don't periodically clean the fan it will become clogged with dust/debris causing the processor to overheat. The hotter the processor the slower your comp. will run. acklac7
never done this but looked in there an all seems ok I would at least consider cleaning it, i've seen some desktops that looked clean but once the fan was removed there was a mat of dust/debris covering (and insulating) the processor. acklac7
i have the product key. and have installed it a 2 computers so far. Do both computers connect to the net via the same IP? Microsoft doesn't like identical product keys connecting from different IP addy's...
