jjjxlr8
Get your Saiga 12 drum magazines while you still can. http://www.atf.gov/publications/firearms/012611-study-on-importality-of-certain-shotguns.pdf

jjjxlr8
I wonder if this means that the Saiga 12's might be able to be imported WITH a pistol grip since it seems to be accepted as "sporting" for shotguns??? That would be nice.
Scotty2Hotty
No joke, no to mention Glock magazines at the moment are being sold out left and right. I guess there was quite a few Glock 17 and 19's sold this week already, and most of the 33 round mags are out of stock all over.
jjjxlr8
After a closer look at this, it appears that the SAIGA shotguns are the 'target' of this new study. Notice the (8) and (9) features that are not "sporting" features and may prevent the shotguns from being imported. (8) is Excessive weight and (9) is Excessive bulk. I think that the Saiga 12 shotguns have "excessive bulk" by their new definitions! The Saiga measures 4.25" from bottom of trigger guard to top of dust cover. I measured a new Benelli and it measures a hiar under 4" at it's "deepest" section. Buy a Saiga now if you want one! Scotty2Hotty
I assume part of Benelli's line up is in danger now?
jjjxlr8
I assume part of Benelli's line up is in danger now? Why?
jjjxlr8
I was mistaken... the trigger guard is not to be considered in the measurement so the Saiga shotguns should be safe.
copperhead
Supposedly this was done because the gov wants a way to shit on China, so they are making an easy target of Norinco http://www.impactguns.com/store/SS-91409.html It makes that particular gun as easy target as it has a bayo lug. Weird though because I was under the impression that Clinton (the first one) had an all-out ban on Norinco.
copperhead
The Saiga in imported form is set up to completely follow the ATF's rules on being a sporterized gun, even going as far as not having a pistol grip (even though they could add one and still follow the rules). These guidelines only cover imported guns - anything built in America can ignore all that garbage. Once they are here is when they get modified in ways that would go against that rules, but so long as there are enough American made parts on it, everything is fine. Now then, I've read that the Izhmash plant that produces Saiga firearms is shutting down for one reason or another and they are having issues tooling a different factory to resume. My question is - what percentage of Saigas produced end up in America anyway? Why not start making them here and just skip all the stupid laws, so that they can be built "fun" from the beginning? My next question is what are the copyrights on them? I believe the AK design was NOT copyrighted on purpose, so there should be no issue for an American company to design and produce their own AK pattern weapons, including shotguns. Seems like it would be a super easy way to start a company that could go FAR, considering the political climate and the desire for "evil black guns" along with the sheer amount of fun that can be had with a semi auto 12 gauge. Government sales alone could be huge if marketed right.

jjjxlr8
CAI has already been making a 100% US AK rifles. Milled receiver, too. http://www.centuryarms.com/law/Knob10-4_LR.pdf
Scotty2Hotty
Why? I know the Saiga is an import, but sticking with their reason of an automatic shotgun, the Benelli's are pretty quick cycling weapons. I was just poking fun at the BATFE. Avenger1647545502
(10) forward pistol grips or other protruding parts designed or used for gripping the shotgun with the shooter’s extended hand. Oh, now THOSE are some damn weaselly words right there..."other protruding parts" can mean damn near anything.
