If you want help I can have my wife look into it. She's a manager there. She's going on maternity leave right now but could probably help you complain to the right people. This type of thing does happen everywhere though.

Really is to bad about the points on your old account. They pulled that on me too before. The rep at the branch should have mentioned your points they get a bonus for it, I guess that rep was a loser.

I've never had a problem with 5/3 and I've had the same checking account since I was 14 years old. I mean, aside from my own dumb ass going negative, sure.

+1, I have them (and USAA, and some credit unions) and have never had any real problems. I keep a close watch on my account and any problems I've had - they've quickly fixed.

Went in today and got the points situation squared away. They were able to transfer them to the new account even with the old account being closed. I'm still not pleased about them "losing" my info, but there's not much they can do about that now. I'm still most likely going to go with another bank, but have some research to do prior.

Thanks guys for all the input / testimonials.

their identity theft protection is a joke. its all the same crap coverage no matter which bank you get it from (except chase) i used to be a retention agent for affinion group, theyre the ones who control the identity theft programs for wells fargo, 5/3rd, bank of america, and a bunch of others. i had the service free when i worked there, and still was unsatisfied with the benefits.

Doesnt chase charge you to use debit?

Nope.

It is amazing how many bad stories I have heard about 5/3rd from a lot of different sources.

One of my favorites is the story from my boss. He was in the process of getting divorced. His wife was never on his account (and not authorized to do anything with it), yet she goes in and was able to withdrawl a couple thousand dollars out of his account, right from the branch.

If that were my wifes branch she'd have fired that teller as soon as she could get the call in to bank security.

Is that the trick?

Porn sites or basically any document, picture, program ANYTHING. Doesn't matter if you have you have the best antivirus out there, hackers have ways of "crypting" viruses and attaching them to pictures/programs/websites so they run undetected. Once on your system they are incredibly hard to identify and often remain active until you do a complete system reboot.

And the viruses in question log all your key-strokes/browsing history then send them to a 3rd party, while at the same time allowing an attacker to view your desktop in real time, it's like serious shit.

FYI if you do have one of those viruses I would expect more of your online accounts to be compromised - I.E. Paypall,Ebay etc, not just your personal Bank Account.

That's good to know, especially since the suspicious activity on my card occurred in a store.

Once hackers obtain your info they usually make "clones" of your credit cards and sell them. The clones are usually blank/dummy cards with all of your legit credit card info contained on the magnetic strip. This is why most retailers are supposed to visually check/verify the last 4 digits on your card, however that rarely happens.
