They were made by a manuf. who makes these for tons of diff. people. I didnt drill em. They are just aftermarket replacements basically. You can drill your own though, buy they should be new and I dont recommend it either. Got the screws drilled out on the left front. Right front next.

I put drilled/slotted on my truck with braided stainless flex lines. It used to never have a firm pedal, and they would fade a lot, after driving hard on backroads for just a few minutes. Now they never fade, no matter how hard I drive it, and the pedal is very firm, it doesn't sink at all. It feels kind of like stepping on a brick if you slam on them.

 

I would recommend this to anyone.

As for the removing fasteners tricks, I tried a few, but I know how quick I can sucessfully drill out a fastener like this. By the time I heated & beated I can drill/tap/...done.

 

However, I think in many applications, and for those w/less tools/experience those suggestions are right on. :D

 

Got em drilled out w/no problem and am gonna replace the phillip heads with

allen heads.

i would like to say Tinman is the MAN when it comes to Rx7 projects.

 

Let me back up then. I dont for one second question that. It just seems like every time I make a thread everyone is on the attack. When the truth is, I joined this club because I am serious about sharing misc. car info w/other local car guys.

 

Keep in mind (and I will try to also), I'm a noobie here. If TINMAN is a RX7 guy, thats good enough for me. I hope to meet TINMAN in person, as well as you very soon.

is there a specific reason you wish to keep the rotor fastening hardware? im no mazda specialist, but there has been tons of cars i have worked on where this stripped hardware was drilled out, and nothing was put in its place. there's plenty of car companies that dont put fasteners in the rotors at all, and all of the cars i have seen with the hardware deleted had no negative effects. the only side effect i can see is the rotor will wobble around a little till you put the wheel on, as well as if you take the caliper off. just wondering if im missing something crucial here, if not, id ditch the screws.

for everyone here those screws are meant to do 2 things,

1. ease of assembly at the plant, a whole knuckle, strut, control arm, brake assembly can be lifted into the car via a hoist.

2. as of the last 7-8 years, on the car brake lathes have become more and more popular and are used to resolves issues with vibration in braking systems. these screws hold the rotor tight tot he hub during that process.

Kevin, I honestly don't care what you post. I like your approach to your projects for whatever reason you decide to do them. I think you could install a push button plunger in your car and detail it better than 90% of the people who jump in you posts. It doesn't have to matter that they wouldn't do that or they don't understand why you would. As I said before, in person most people would be all over your car respecting the detail and care you put into your own work. I'm not on here much. But I do enjoy seeing your posts, for what that's worth. Your approach is different than most on here, that's all it is.

You mean how hard are they gonna be to remove one day right. They shouldnt be any harder than the ones I drilled out. However, those have been in there for about 10 years. I dont drive the car a whole lot. I used some copper anti-seize on em too. Torqued to 130in./lbs. per factory manual.

I got the ones on the right side drilled out tonight and the old rotor & pads off. The warm weather is gettin me motivated ya know.
