Rustlestiltskin
I just got done fixing up the computer/console gaming room and the last thing I need to get is a flatscreen tv for the xbox360. I'm playin on a 19in. tube tv right now lol. Question is what do you guys think is the best value flatscreen tv (plasma/lcd) for under $500. It can be refurbished, clearanced, out of box, etc.. I've been looking at some killer deals on tiger direct at vizeo 37in. for $349 but want to see what you guys think. thanks in advance, Paul EDIT: this computer/game room is one of the guest bedrooms so it isn't that big of a room like a living room or rec room. The recroom in my house is going to be the movie room. Just clearing things up so you guys dont go suggesting big tv's. vizeo 37in. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7337575&CatId=3649 vizeo 32in. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1239952&CatId=5988 Edited November 7, 2011 by Rustlestiltskin
frenchy chan
i don't know much about this stuff, but we have a 42" and i find it to be pretty hard to read stuff on the screen. so unless you are going to be sitting really close to it, i'd go bigger than what you are looking at
Rustlestiltskin
i'm only going to be sitting a few feet away
oh8sti
my 71 plasma gives me a sunburn if im too close. dont go that big, its way overkill for a 10x13 room.
iwashmycar
Id go 42". Seems like a good size for most rooms and uses. I think the LG I got was around 400 bucks at HHGreg. They usually have awesome sales on TVs EDIT: doesnt seem like they have any good sales during football season lol

Either way, you base your tv size on how far your average viewing distance is from the tv. There are a billion charts on the internets. If you're looking for a gaming tv, make sure it's fast. I'd give better advice, but I haven't had to look at tv's since I bought mine. Im not aware of what's current.

10phone2
Have you considered a used sony projector? You could basically turn the whole wall into a screen if you wanted.
bicranium
For under $500 and gaming this is the best choice at Best Buy... http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Insignia%26%23153%3B+-+42%22+Class+/+Plasma+/+720p+/+600Hz+/+HDTV/9748831.p?id=1218166511573&skuId=9748831 Big thing you're going to want to look at for gaming is input lag. It's virtually non-existent on plasma TV's and it varies greatly on LCD/LED TV's so you'll have to research that for each specific model you look at. Because of that, out of sheer laziness, I prefer plasma. Here's a recertified Panasonic (best plasmas on the market now that Pioneer is done) from Newegg for $450... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889187224 Here's a nice 46" Panasonic on Amazon... http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-VIERA-TC-P46X3-46-Inch-Plasma/dp/B004M8SCLA/ref=sr_1_3?s=tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1320685147&sr=1-

Care to explain why you didn't pick 1080p tv's other then price?
El Karacho1647545492
I have that 37" vizio. Its a phenomenal TV for the price, but you get what you pay for. there are many better options out there for more money, no better than that for the price though. Rustlestiltskin
1080p has virtually no benefits until you go past 50". would you choose those 2 tv's you listed over the 2 I posted in my original post?
bicranium
I would choose the 3rd one I edited in...lol. The 46" Panasonic. Amazon is having some 48 hour sale so that 46" is actually $20 cheaper than the 42" of the same model line on Amazon. It's about $100 more than that 37" Vizio but it's a plasma which I find to be better for gaming, it's new, not refurbished and it's a Panasonic which is the best plasma company out there right now. It is great for NHL12 and Madden, though it leaves something to be desired on GTA:IV and games with very dark environments
Green Bastard
I have a 42" plasma made by emerson that's 1080p and it suits me pretty well, but my console is in my living room which is prolly bigger than the room your setting up
