I'd like to try the network out w/o getting into a contract.Now for those of you in the know. I thought I read there are 2 types of networks in the US, cdma and gsm(one uses a sim card). Now with sprint getting the iphone could i get an old 3gs to work on the sprint network? Any if not I'd like to get a sprint smart phone to try them out. SpaceGhost Posted November 13, 2011 Report Share Posted November 13, 2011 Sorry man. The radio in the 3GS is not compatible with CDMA networks, only GSM. Even the unlocked 4S ($650 for 16GB) will not work in Sprint's Network, it only works on a GSM network (AT&T). An unlocked phone can be used on another GSM carrier.
