My understanding of the AFG is to keep the muzzle down by using pressure against the shoulder while keeping the hand natural unlike an VFG, now that the stock is gone it still works just not as intended. With the BATFE's history of sending a letter out saying "This is legal" then saying "Oh yeah, just kidding" you can't be too cautious. What you have there is a short rifle with no butt (with you will rectify once you SBR it.) If you want a pistol, buy a platform that was intended to be used as a pistol. Don't jerry rig a rifle to slide into the pistol classification. This will never perform as well as a real pistol.
