TimTaylor751647545500 Posted February 11, 2012 Report Share Posted February 11, 2012 I was heading to lunch today and when I started my car at work, I noticed a mid-range whining noise. Very shortly after, I noticed an electronic burning smell coming through the vents into the car. I quickly turned the engine off. Had a coworker come out with me to check it out. He was looking under the hood while I restarted the engine. After about 30 seconds he urged me to turn the car off. He informed me that he saw what appeared to be flames/fire coming out of the alternator. I had the car towed home and picked up a new alternator and belt at O'reilly's which will be installed this weekend. Hopefully this will fix the issue. TimTaylor751647545500 Posted February 13, 2012 Author Report Share Posted February 13, 2012 Got the alternator all swapped out, but the oil cooler line that was VERY badly corroded and broke in my hand is keeping me from being able to test everything.
