Guest Hal Posted April 27, 2012 Report Share Posted April 27, 2012 My suggestion is to go to an Urgent Care, there's one on Cleveland Ave at County Line Rd.. When I went without insurance, the visit was $100 plus whatever medication is necessary. I would definitely hit one of those places over the ER, especially without insurance. If at possible try going to Urgent care instead and you can save quite a bit more also This. Urgent care. You should have a family physician---if something has been going on for months, an er visit is what many people do--use the er as their primary care dr., and that's just one of the problems with the utilization of health care in america. Even if you don't have insurance, you can get into a free clinic run by medical residents. But yes, an urgent care is much less than an er typically. We paid $2k last year when my daughter figured out how to open a childrens tylenol bottle. Our deductible is set at the lowest possible amount--$3k. This. I am hoping thats what it is. Whats bothering me is that my throat is swelling closed today. I feel just fine. The worst symptom is what I can only describe as a gurgling sensation where an adams apple might be low/deep in the throat that has persisted for weeks. Even just touching it with 0 pressure forces me to gag. That and the fact its accompanied by a ripping/tearing feeling on one side of the neck but it feels really close to the surface of the skin and my left ear feels like I need to keep tugging on it. ERs are for emergencies, not primary care visits as a lot of people tend to think. If you are truly having issues with breathing, then that is an emergency. If you're breathing just fine, then it probably isn't. As was said, get established with a PCP if possible as that is who you should be discussing this situation with. I know there is a FREE clinic in Circleville just off Island Rd. as I work with some people who have volunteered there (and which I'm going to do myself). It is open every Tuesday evening from like 5-8pm. There is a primary care physician there and occasionally a cardiologist, as well as multiple nurses. They deal specifically with people who do not have insurance and will refer you to other physicians/specialists as needed. I am sure there are other FREE clinics around Columbus as well.
