TTQ B4U
I hate decks, but it's been with us for nearly 20 years so the PIA of having to take care of it continues. In the end, it's still a great thing to have during the summer, although it will be the last one I ever have. Patio's FTW. Was more than overdue for a good cleaning and staining. Cabot oil based stain and she's good to go for another couple years. Now off to move the rest of our chairs and stuff back onto it. The next few weeks will be spent landscaping and cleaning up all the beds and what not. Most all of it is Western Red Cedar. http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/144235770/original.jpg View from Backyard: http://www.pbase.com/timothylauro/image/144235771/original.jpg
Furloaf
Damn, that is spiffy. Nice woodwork. So are you keeping it? Do you mean your next house won't have a deck?
TTQ B4U
Damn, that is spiffy. Nice woodwork. So are you keeping it? Do you mean your next house won't have a deck? We're keeping the house. At least for the time being. No sense in knocking down the deck either. It's solid. What I meant is if/when we move I'll not likely have a deck but rather a patio. Much easier to care for.

Tshensley
I just finished mine 2 weeks ago with the brand Flood and it looks amazing. It really takes some work to get it done but it looks really nice
TTQ B4U
It really takes some work to get it done but it looks really nice Yes it does. I've stripped and refinished it completely in the past (see below) but this time I just cleaned it, used deck brightening agent and then stained. It took very well using a commercial grade airless sprayer. The kind that actually uses enough power to force the stain into the wood as apposed to brushing or the cheaper airless units that will tend to just lay it on top requiring more effort. Parts were brushed of course, but most was sprayed. Here are some shots from my first stripping of it. The color looks bright but it toned down to match what you see today. ross
Did you have to sand the deck surface? I refinished my parents deck two summers ago and at first we debated replacing the floor because of some splintering but opted to sand it. It turned out alright but its only a temporary fix until my parents decide to drop some coin to go with a composite deck surface.
Skinner
going to stain our deck and fence this fall. Tim where did you get the sparyer at? Was it a rental did you buy it?
iwashmycar
Looks nice!. Indeed decks suck. My dad built a nice one with an incredible 3-tier gazebo, place for the grill, ect. Just a thing to have to keep staining, and then the wasps LOVE it, so it becomes pretty unusable. They have another brick patio as well which gets used a lot. The downside to the deck I am referring to is that the spindles are sandwiched between pairs of top and bottom rails, with a board on top to finish it.... what does that give you?...a bazillion little nooks for wasp nests. woops. Your spindles are simply between a top and bottom piece... smarter.
