Detailers I need some advice: water spots

So recently at work I was sitting at the light and the car was getting soaked by the sprinklers which I assume come from the pond, didn't have time to wash it for a week and now my carbon fiber hood has a ton of water spots that won't come off after washing. What is a good way to get whatever is etched into the clearcoat or gel coat of the hood.

Distilled white vinegar first, polish if that doesn't work, compound if that doesn't work, sandpaper last

Thanks for the advice, whatever was in the water had to of been quite acidic as it took some time but I ended up using Meguairs Ultimate Compound and just went over the whole hood with it. Got 99% of them that I could see might go over it again in the spring, took for-ev-er by hand wish I had a orbital.

Ultimate Compound, eh? I'm in the same predicament as you, hard water spots from my car getting attacked by a sprinkler during a really hot, sunny day. I have some of the Megs in my garage, I will have to give that a crack.

yep that seem to work the best, just used a terry cloth applicator pad and went to town, looks brand new now. With yours being just hard water it might be easier, mine was quite bad.
