Computer. Build or Buy me one

Budget: $4-500 unless unrealistic (not including 3rd monitor)

Needs: ability to run three 23" monitors SMOOTHLY

Thats about it. I need several browsers open for work and my laptop isn't cutting it. I'm guessing most PC's these days can do that but building one sounds fun.

I have: 2 23" monitors

1 USB to VGA converter

Bonus points if you meet at microcenter and spend my money. Beers at Gallos included

I don't know the first thing about building a computer but like most other things I assume you will get more for your money if you do it yourself. Especially with your budget.

I agree. But, like you, I dont know shit about building one either.

I can adjust my budget but figured if all I'm doing is running browsers I wouldn't need much.

oh.. there is like 60 bucks worth of rebates in there too. i didnt list em. didnt list win 7 either. if you dont have a copy you could get one there for like 100 bucks.

Skip the USB to VGA and get an AMD based video card with eyefinity support. I use a 6950 but most decent cards now support it and can run 4 or more displays. (I run 4)

Great. I honestly hate this thing and dont want it on my desk. I was hoping to plug all monitors straight into pc.

Typically the Eyefinity cards won't run 4 out of the box. You'll need display port adapters to match the card and monitor inputs you have.

I have an Nvidia Quadro card that supports 4 cards right out of the box though.

What do you want the system for? I have a few spare parts here.

My laptop does everything I need just fine. All I need is internet basically. My laptop will only run 1 external though. It will run 2 but the 2nd is roughly 23x29 resolution

400-500 budget for an internet box? That's silly. Use the USB to VGA for your 3rd monitor and a dock for the 2nd screen on your laptop. That's what I do.

What laptop do you have?

My laptop has no problems with 3 screens being "smooth"

I did that but laptop won't run the 3rd at full resolution. Either way im bored and feel like blowing money so internet box it is. Plus i want a dedicated computer for my office, not a laptop that i have to unplug all the time.

Total was $530 and I have $70 worth of rebates so $460 not including Windows. I'm sure some of this stuff is towards the bottom performance wise but it opens my browser pretty quick :) There were a few headaches here and there but overall a fun process. Will build again.
