It's currently cheaper and easier to get them across the border from the USA, regardless of the actual purchase price. If we halted all illegal importation of weaponry into Mexico, the cartels would simply go somewhere else to find weapons. Get the picture? It's not the weapons that represent a problem, it's the cartels. And Mexico has been struggling with civil insurrection with those bad boys for a long long time.
