For best results buy a bigger hard drive (I recently bought a 320gb for $50; they're cheap) to put the content on, then use a newer USB 2.0 flash drive (8gb at the very, very least) to copy the game disc onto.

Rockstar Games recommended against installing Grand Theft Auto V's game disc to your Xbox 360 hard drive -- it creates performance issues -- but Digital Foundry has discovered a solution. Storing the installation disc's data to your hard drive, and the play disc's content to a USB drive, apparently smooths out any texture pop-in or lag problems. This allows your machine's hard drive to worry about the install disc's data.

yup. You'll have to format it. Do that from inside the x-box

Thanks!

I guess since I have not been able to use the game I am a bit confused....I need to install the 8gb from the first disc.(recommended for xbox drive). Then the play disc #2 requires an install as well, which they suggest install on a usb 2 drive?

I got it off Amazon (along with a transfer cable). It's a non-Microsoft brand but it hasn't skipped a beat. The smaller-size drives go for $20-$40, but for an extra few bucks I got the biggest one available.

I'm not 100% sure about the install, I don't own the game. I've just been researching it lately because I'm going to pick it up after my current classes are over. I still need to pickup a flash drive, and I heard SanDisk is the best brand for full compatibility.

edit: This site says yes, you are correct

install the first disc on your 360 hard drive like you normally would, then install the play disc to a USB thumb drive.

Those are for early gen 360's. They won't fit the new "S" version that Putty described. Microcentermay have some refurb drives, if you want to go that route.

Did you really just try to hash tag something on CR? :jerkit:

CR needs to get with the times.... :)

Rockstar themselves said not to install the "play disc" (second disc). So just install that first disc wherever you can fit it then use the second disc normally.

I bought a 32gb thumb drive just a minute ago. Going to install first disc and play from 2nd. Although, guy at store told me to install both on drive and it's great.
