TurboRust Posted November 14, 2013 Report Share Posted November 14, 2013 so i've become computer dumb over the last 11 years of being in the car industry and just using my computer to listen to music, surf websites and watch youtube for hours on end..lol so cpl months ago the wife wanted to upgrade to windows 7 so we do, and sound is insta no workie.. I reintalled the sound drivers it works for 10ish mins before windows says fuck you and overrides it.. I turned off automatic update so it wouldnt install its own drivers overtop.. am I missing something?If I need to buy a sound card thats is 7 approved recommend me a cheap one? my current lack of sound is provided by. ga-965p-ds3 gigabyte with onboard sound. http://images10.newegg.com/NeweggImage/productimage/13-128-012-07.jpg Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

This is assuming you already installed the drivers from Realtek. Post setup, if you have HD front panel jacks, this doesn't apply to you. Else, if you have AC97 Jacks go into realtek HD audio manager and: In vista, on the right you should see audio ports on the right and a little folder above them. click the folder and select "disable front panel jack detection" Source here: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/234676-28-realtek-alc888-965p-sound#. copperhead Posted November 14, 2013 Report Share Posted November 14, 2013 If you decide to go with a new sound card, you can either go the easy route with this: http://www.microcenter.com/product/353890/Sound_Blaster_X-Fi_Go!_Pro_External_Sound_Card If you don't mind popping open the case you could get this: http://www.microcenter.com/product/310207/Sound_Blaster_Audigy_SE_PCI_Sound_Card And if you just want cheap as fuck, you could get this: (note, I've never used this brand before so no clue on quality) http://www.microcenter.com/product/239854/6_Channel_PCI_Sound_Card Those are both PCI cards. They fit into one of the three white slots on the right side of your picture, so make sure you have one free before buying a card. TurboRust Posted November 15, 2013 Author Report Share Posted November 15, 2013 well shit windows is taking back over... more symptoms if i do that disable front jacks the sound works, and then stops after 20ish mins. if i turn the front jacks back on and then turn off it works again.
