I like how they partially camouflaged the appendage with a clever paint scheme too, but it looks to be one of the more elegant interpretations of the new rule.

 

I thought the same thing. Here's a great link to photos of various new F1's. There's probably some better links out there but this happens to be one I was looking at the other day. Is that nose really longer on one side, or are my eyes tricking me?

 

It is. My theory is that it's based on the aerodynamics of a majority of the tracks going clockwise vs counterclockwise. I don't think the rules would allow a mirror-shaped one for the opposite tracks though.

No reason why they wouldn't if the other nose also passed the crash tests. The rules would only ban a change once qualifying starts.

Interesting, and probably only one of them has to be a certain length and/or height in order to meet the letter of the rule. I still wonder about asymmetrical aero balance, though

 

 

P.S. Any info on the McLaren rear suspension active aero thing I keep seeing some people mention?
