I love stories like this. Just like Snapchat passing up 3 billion. People aren't in it for the money and those on the outside cannot wrap their heads around it, especially the media.

Creators are in it to make great experiences and own what they have built.

(even if the pipes do look like mario, lol)

I can understand the creators of Snapchat not selling out yet, I don't think the value has peaked just yet. Not saying you're wrong, just that I wouldn't be surprised if they wait a bit and try to sell in a couple years for even more. Other than that, good perspective.

I respectfully wonder if he suffers from some mental issues though - why draw more attention to your product by tweeting about it going down. Wouldn't you have a much, much quieter exit by selling the game off and stepping away? Guess I just don't reason like he does.

Anyway, I have this idea for a game. Two boards that two players control, with a cute pixelated star that bounces between the two. It'll even have a leaderboard and rankings so you can brag on Facebook about it. Anyone able to code Pongy Star for me? :gabe:

I suspect the guy doesn't want to be known as the Flappy Bird creator. He would rather be known for something greater than a easy to make, low quality and cheap game that by a fluke became immensely popular. Not to mention it wasn't an original idea at all.

I'm not this guy's apologist, but I can't think of any other games in which you navigate a bird between some pipes for as long as possible. Seems pretty original to me? Of course, if you're trying to say, "Well, it kind of looks like Mario Bros..." then I'd counter by asking, "What, then, qualifies as original?" You could make an argument that everyone except Pong (or whatever the first video game was) is unoriginal.

I decided to see what the hype was about. Downloaded an apk from the web and installed it. Couldnt get past 4. Damn i suck.

When I first played it, I thought the object was to actually try to go into one of the green tubes (like Mario). Then I realized I am an idiot. Sadly, actually trying to avoid the green tubes did not appreciably improve my score.

I have mental disorders with games like these. Deep into the game I'll get urges to do things like push my finger hard against the corner of the phone, see how many times I can blink between passing pipes, or scratch my nose real quick. Not sure wtf is wrong with me. 32 is my best but it could be a lot higher if I weren't retarded.

So the developer pulled this game off the shelves because of all the internet's rage against it.. Now people are putting their phones on Ebay for thousands of dollars with it still installed.
