What kind of options are around Columbus for such a thing? I would like to move the toy car to a safe and enclosed place to bring the daily into the garage.

WWCRD?

WWCD? Buy a house with a big enough garage to fit both.. :)

I have a barn in a quasi remote location if you don't mind it getting covered with barn dust, bird shit, and mouse feces? I mean, who wouldn't want that?

That's the life he's lived, I want better for him.

I'll spare you my hate because I'm chipper today Paul.

There are quite a few apartment complexes in the area and back when we were shopping apartments last year they all had plenty of extra garage spaces available. How willing they are going to be to rent them out to someone not living there I'm not certain but empty garages are lost revenue for them so there's no harm in asking.

Having the car close is important because you'll find if it's too far away you'll pass up opportunities to use it because it's such a pain in the rear to go pick it up and drop it back off.

For what its worth I used to keep my 69 Camaro in various storage facilities up north by the Johnstown area when I had a house with no garage.

I never had a problem with them, but I would readily agree with Andy, keep the car close by, or else it gets very hard to get the desire to drive over to it to pull it out of storage.

I almost sold my car because I rarely drove it for this reason.

+1 for apartment complexes renting you a garage. I used to keep the Cark in one for $50 a month and never had an issue. Most of the time the complex will have additional garages that are available and just want the additional revenue. I would ask for a lease agreement that states you will have 1 month notice if they need to rent your spot so you have time to find another garage.

Good luck!

I have some space available in my car barn, it is. Club membership with storage:

Man Cave:

Philosophy:

New Albany is home to many avid car collectors who either have run out of space or would prefer to keep their prized possessions in another climate controlled facility rather that tie up expensive real estate at their homes. Since the downturn of the economy many investor have found that investing in classics is a reliable way to protect their cash and enjoy it at the same time rather than invest in unpredictable Wall Street investments that they have no control over the volatility. What is the New Albany MotorPlex all about?

An array of features and services await you and your vehicles. Collector Car to Race Cars, Classics to Motorcycles, RV's, Boats and even Helicopters... it is where enthusiasts gather. It is called a MotorPlex because this site offers it owners a wide array of features and services.

The problem:

* Garage space limits me on the number of vehicle my wife/HOA allows me to have.

* I dread having my special car used as a bicycle stand by my kids

* I dread all the wasted time waiting for routine maintenance at the mechanic shop

* I dread having to tow my race car across town to my specialist mechanic

* Heated storage is hard to find especially in floor heat ( anyone who works on a car know why

this is important)

* I like hanging out with other enthusiasts like me and meet other enthusiasts that enjoy my

hobby

* I like showing off my prized positions (cars, motorcycles, boat, collection of WWII airplane

parts)

* I like to have a place to hang out to watch the F1 race

* I'd like to check in on my stored vehicles without having to go there (web cam)

* Rental places don't seem to have the kind of security that I'm expecting.

The solution:

* Build a destination place that brings together people with automotive/motorsports interests. Some place that we can hang out and even conduct business meetings in the clubhouse. Some place where the mechanics come to us. Some place to have our race cars prepped for the season. A protected museum and a place that has all of the security that makes me feel at ease in storing my collection (individual units, sprinklers, in-floor heat, individual web cams, and facility security cameras).

* A place to have an annual series of car shows. An extensive library of automotive history and reference materials. A place to make it easy for people to enjoy their vehicles.

It sounds amazing. However, I don't know that my toy is, ahem... Who do I contact for inquiry?

Sounds like a place I'm looking into setting up once I get settled down in South Carolina. I haven't looked to see whats already in place.

As for up here in Columbus, Alum Creek storage isn't a bad price.

My car is stored in an apt complex in Dublin. I (and a few friends) never had issues renting units even just for the winter while not being tenants. It's not the most ideal scenario but it's alright for $50/mo.

This. This right here is the answer, but pisses tenants like myself off. Last year we were in need of additional storage space as the gf and i live in a tiny single bedroom apartment. We asked about getting a garage so i could keep my car in it and store a few extra things. They were reasonable cheap, something like 55$ a month compared to 80 were paying for a teeny tiny locker, but there was only 1 available and it was on the opposite side of the complex. The garages by our apartment arent even owned by tenants. Kind of pisses me off.

That looks pretty sweet! Can you post up more details? It seems like a good place for meetups as well.

I wanted to open something like Sleadhead36 has several years ago. It wasn't going to be as high end but it would be safe and enjoyable. It would actually serve as a way to satisfy my hobby and I get to have loved cars (albeit not my own) stored in one place.

Back to the topic. Miller, I have an off-site garage where I keep one of mine. In the past I have rented a garage or two at an apartment complex. Sometimes there are parking spaces for rent at a large building and I have found some at CL.
