Snowflake
One of the inspectors here in North Dakota has an 06 Dodge with the 5.9 cummins in it. The rear main bearing went out on it and he has it at a dealership in Williston ND. He told me the replacement cost is 15,000 just for the motor and the labor for the install is going to be 3-5 k more. So he's basically looking at 20k to have a motor put in his truck. Someone please tell me that this is waaayyyyy over the top. If it is a bullshit number what would the normal cost for something like that be. 6 Speed S4
That sounds about right, maybe a little on the high end but I dont know what a new engine cost for one. I know diesels are very expensive to repair.

ecc_33
That is crazy high. i would get a used engine and put in it. They don't spin bearings very often.
Geeesammy
Dealerships won't put a reman unit in so that explains the high cost of the engine. I've head the going rate for a Diesel shop around here is $190-ish an hour, I'm sure up there it is a little bit more than that.
Slomo Eric
It be better to have the motor built than spend $20k on a new one.
SPL_Josh
Send the motor to industrial injection in northern Cali if that is the route.
Snowflake
The worst part about it, the guy still owes 19k on the truck. I've showed him several motors that are built on ebay. He said he was going to look into something other than the dealership.
