Well, I bought a 1967 Camaro off eBay and the listing read

"This car has quite of bit of work done to it. I have a lot of time into it. I have replaced the frame rails with new ones. I put floor pans. A full trunk pan. I also put new inner and outer back wheel wells. The tail pan is new as well. The passenger side rocker panel is new. I put new body mounts on it. I have the other rocker panel but it doesn't really need to be replaced. I have the back seat but no front seat. It has a 4 1/2" scoop that need to be finished being blended in. It is cut and fitted. It is also setup for disc brake in the front. The some of the body panels need to be finished being blended in but I have a great start on them There is not motor or trans. This car is a great project. A lot of the hard work has been done.

They used the rear seat to hide the fact they didn't weld in the rear torque boxes

Off by just a little on the rocker

unfortunately i see this alot. it makes my job harder also as most of the time the correct bracing wasnt used while replacing panels, and the door gaps are most likely miles off. 90% of the aftermarket panels you buy are close at best, and need tons of rework to get correct. if you need any help let me know, we have built cars out of vin tags before.

Damn that sucks, is there anything you can do to ship back the car and refund the money?

Ebay dude just unloaded a hacked up rust bucket and someone paid him for it...unless theres legal precedent I would assume it's a done deal.

I'm sure a crack team of lawyers from the law offices of C & R will offer up their advice shortly.

Part of eBay is that ebay guarantees that the item is as described, if you can show that it isn't getting a refund shouldn't be too hard. That being said while the car looks like shit, I'm not sure the description is accurate enough to make it an easy deal either way.

YEP this exactly. Gotten burned too many times on ebay, NEVER EVER again. Will always inspect in person before buying, or pass.

Sorry you got burned.

Id still open a dispute with Paypal, assuming you paid that way. Tell them the item was not as described and 99% of the time they will side with the buyer.

How far away did the car come from? Shipping costs? Id imagine best case scenario you'd have to eat shipping costs.

I paid using a check or else I would have filed with PayPal. I should have just eaten the extra there ( Meaning used PayPal ) and my ass would be covered. It was in Tunkhannock Pa, which is 500 miles from Chillicothe, OH. Edited by WideOpenThrottle

Nobody to blame but the buyer.... It's your responsibility to cover all the bases. Shame on you for buying something sight unseen without as much as asking for additional up close pictures. Yes, the guy should've been a little forthcoming about the work, but what kinda bonehead doesn't inspect a project closer before a big purchase like this? This isn't a scam at all.

Kind of sucks but very true.

FWIW, the car is so bad that there is no way that the seller wasn't intentionally hiding stuff, so if you wanted to take legal action there might be something to stand on. However, financially it is absolutely not worth it. you paid for a lesson in what not to do in buying a project car. Ebay in general is a red flag, paying with a check is a red flag, pictures that look like they were taken with a potato instead of a camera is a red flag.

so rather than dwell on what's happened....let's focus on the future.

1) Leave the seller negative feedback. It doesn't do much but it does something

2) how much did you pay for this wreck? If it wasn't a lot might I suggest that you look into one of the dynacorn Repop bodies. $13,500 and the car is all brand new sheet-metal ready to paint. You just weld the section that had the vin tag and data plate on to the new car and then you can cut up the old shell and sell the metal to some other restorer. Just looking at whats there and what's probably still hidden I think you'll be cheaper in the long run, unless there is a body guy on here willing to give someone the "bro price" on building a unibody car up from the vin tags.

http://www.dynacornclassicbodies.com/gm_models2.html

3) you can sell it and recoup some of the losses. There is no such thing as a "cheap" first gen F body project anymore and while you probably won't get your money back for it you'll get something. Personally I would give you $500 for it (please don't take that as an insult) but that is what it is worth to me to cut up and resell as parts, someone with real stars in their eyes and basic working knowledge of a mig welder might give you a lot more.

hey Farkas, while I agree with most of what you say there are ways to be less of a dick about it. And for the record this is still a scam - the seller knew this car had these issues and was fishing for a buyer who wasn't going to look to close. That's why it was on ebay in the first place, that is why the pics were taken the way they were, it was all setup to hide what is so glaringly obviously a wreck that if on the off chance that the seller really was ignorant then they are also probably mentally handicapped. These kind of actions are what separate good guys from scumbags, and this seller is a scumbag. You know what we (society) call people who willfully look for people to exploit? Scam Artists.

+2

You buy a car without inspecting it, you get what you get. People only sell shit on ebay or stuff there is no market in their area for. Obviously you know which one this is.
