IMS bearings will haunt you Rymer. As shown in this ad.

not if you replace it with a high quality aftermarket bearing. Ive done the IMS swap on 2 different motors now.

 

And oddly it's still overpriced.

 

Also if you research LS swaps into boxsters they all recommend starting with an S. Additionally the swap kits are almost $4k

 

 

for anyone interested, a used replacement engine will run you $9,600 for just the engine. I just replaced the motor in a 04 911 which uses the same engine.

+1. If owners are educated they will replace the bearing as though it's a maintenance item and the motors will live for a very long service life.

 

Sadly a base boxster with a bad motor is worth maybe 2k. The two most likely fates for that car are part it out or try to find a salvaged car with good motor in an attempt to make it whole again. Even in perfect running order that car is only worth ~8k

 

As others have stated boxster s is a much better swap candidate for something that is going to make big power
