noobiemcnooberson.
Ww2 German Mauser bayonet. I received this from the estate of a woman that used to watch my siblings and I when I was younger. Her husband was in the service in the European theater but I'm not sure if it was a personal bring back or something he collected as he enjoyed militaria. He had passed away long before she started watching us .I do not know much other than it is a Mauser bayonet with SS markings on it. Not really sure what it is worth as most of the ones I have found online for sale do not have any type of personalization on them. I am also not been able to translate any of the writing on the blade as the characters are difficult to make out. My wife hates that thing and thinks it's creepy so I decided to get rid of it. Overall it is in fairly decent shape cosmetically, with the expected patina and paint wear and some discoloration of the metal as well as a couple of nicks in the blade. I tried my best to get clear pictures of the engraving on the blade but it is very difficult to show, very intricate. http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q124/h22eg6sir/05353665-0A01-4FE0-A007-71A5C132DF6C.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q124/h22eg6sir/8A48CE75-E1DC-4729-B6A5-EB1DA8969B70.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q124/h22eg6sir/79074C7B-D86F-43D9-B366-B6FACA88E939.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q124/h22eg6sir/DFA66A14-9F61-474F-8F81-6F841B730018.jpg I'm really not sure what it's worth most of the standard issue stuff is in the 120-175 range. With the personalization I feel that maybe 275$obo would be a fair price but I'm negotiable to get rid of it and keep the wife happy.

jjjxlr8
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that is a fake/fantasy piece. Post war etchings on these K98 blades are fairly common. Sometimes they called them "SS parade bayonets" and large quantities of them starting selling out of the UK back in the early 70's. It's a shame, really, as the bayonets would be worth more today if they weren't messed with.
noobiemcnooberson.
Damn that sucks to hear, do you have any more information on them? It certainly looks old but if it was done back in the 70s that could account for that. What is the value of something like this?
jjjxlr8
Just do some searching for "etched K98 bayonets" or "k98 parade bayonet" or "fake etched K98 bayonet" and you should find plenty of information and similar pieces. It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Not Brian seemed to like the look of it... It's not a piece that a German or WWII collector would buy. If I had it, I'd put it on eBay with a low starting bid ($5) and see what happens. You might get a couple of people who like the look and you might get a good price for it. I just saw a $15 WWII Finnish M91/30 sling sell for $122 on eBay!! Sometimes people have more dollars than 'sense.'
