Finally caved and got an AR pattern rifle. Decided to do something special instead of the usual 5.56 / .223 rig.

You can fit 9 of these thick bastards in a 30rd mag. Other changes from a standard AR are bolt, barrel and a hogged out ejection port.

You can load a variety of projectile up to around 600gr. Here's a 325gr next to a complete 9mm Critical Defense round.

Anybody else around with big bore ARs?

Nah, they just aren't for me. I have a 556, a 300blk, and considering converting to a Grendel... But not that big. I think a 220g 300blk has effective enough put-down power at close range AND it's boring to shoot past 100 yards. I can imagine that 458 socom needs to be aimed at the moon to get out 200 yards! But, let us know how it goes!
