87GT
Yesterday I learned something important. Having a cheap gun with an expensive scope is better than an expensive gun with a cheap scope. At 100 yards my junk scope was all over the place. I had a spotter watch where I was hitting a few rounds. Then I looked in the scope and he adjusted it until my cross hairs was where I was hitting. I tried again and the rounds did not land close to the previous rounds. Another shooter let me borrow his shooting reset and I tried again. My rounds were all over the place. I tried my iron sites and it was fine. I need a better scope. What is decent around the $200 range? Or do I need more than $200 to hit consistently at 100 yards? Oh and I am using an AR-15 with XM855 rounds. Nothing fancy.
Diamonds
For under 200... I've used the M223 (for 350.00) and it worked great. This is the cheaper version http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-P-223-3-9x40-Mate-BDC/dp/B006YVT0R8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1441982794&sr=8-3&keywords=nikon+M223 I ran one of these out to 600 without issues. http://www.amazon.com/Bushnell-Reticle-Riflescope-Turrets-Parallax/dp/B00ABPAAPY/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1441983136&sr=8-6&keywords=bushnell+4-12x40 For under 250.... http://www.amazon.com/Vortex-2-5-10x44mm-Crossbow-Illuminated-Reticle/dp/B00HYRGWAO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1441983006&sr=8-1&keywords=2.5-10+scope+vortex For under 300... http://www.amazon.com/Vortex%C2%AE-Viper-9x40-Reticle-Riflescope/dp/B002SCV2ZK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1441982849&sr=8-4&keywords=vortex+3-9x40 people seem to go nuts for these, Panduh had one and it shot fine out to 380. https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_Arms_4_14X44_FFP_Scope_with_308_p/pa4-14xffp308.htm
Radio Flyer1647545514
Vortex makes a great budget scope. Making sure your scope is in the rings correctly is important.
Mojoe
My deer rifle is a $300 gun with $800 glass. Last year I tested a cheap scope on a .22 set up I was messing around with. Huge waste of time and a piece of shit. I sent it back.
Hwilli1647545487
Vortex makes a great budget scope. Making sure your scope is in the rings correctly is important. I'd look at vortex as well. My boss has the strikefire ii. Loves it. Im sure they have some magnification options in your price range as well. I assume you are wanting precision, but if this is a "battle rifle" you don't need magnification at under 300 yards.
Diamonds
Also, check the Cabelas bargain cave. They have great deals in there!
Radio Flyer1647545514
Check out camera land ny. They normally have great prices on vortex. I had a viper 2-7x32 a while back I liked a lot. Buddy has two. Hitting 650 yards with it on his Mauser in 270 was pretty easy.
jerrodh
Primary Arms, Vortex, Nikon or Sightmark I've have or had all of them in various versions and never had any complaints.
stangsn95gt
Id go with the vortex strike eagle if you can find one in stock anywhere, its a bit more than you want to spend but a great optic and very versatile with a 1-6x at a good price for that range of magnification. The vortex diamondback hp 2-8x is also a good option and can be had under $200. Hard to beat the vortex VIP warranty too. http://www.opticsplanet.com/vortex-strike-eagle-scope-1-6x24-ar-bdc-reticle.html http://www.opticsplanet.com/vortex-diamondback-hp-2-8x32mm-riflescope.html
jjjxlr8
Nikon Buckmaster is an excellent scope for under $200. I've been using one for years on my M1A. http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k239/jjjxlr8/IMG_1144_zps6iaqvahy.jpg Edited September 15, 2015 by jjjxlr8 added photo... Tractor
I was just using my Banner scope this weekend. I bought mine a couple years ago for well under $100, but now it seems they are expensive. http://www.amazon.com/Bushnell-Mil-Dot-Reticle-Riflescope-6-24x40/dp/B000GEWB52 I've seen better prices around, but nothing as low as I got it for awhile back. It reviewed great back then and my personal opinion of it is that its a great scope. Very well made and probably should be priced more like I'm seeing now. I have it on an smith & wesson MP15 and at 100yrds laying down with the rifle resting on a pillow I shoot 1-2" patterns with cheap steal cased ammo.
