All things scopes

Yesterday I learned something important. Having a cheap gun with an expensive scope is better than an expensive gun with a cheap scope. At 100 yards my junk scope was all over the place. I had a spotter watch where I was hitting a few rounds. Then I looked in the scope and he adjusted it until my cross hairs was where I was hitting. I tried again and the rounds did not land close to the previous rounds. Another shooter let me borrow his shooting reset and I tried again. My rounds were all over the place. I tried my iron sites and it was fine.

I need a better scope. What is decent around the $200 range? Or do I need more than $200 to hit consistently at 100 yards?

Oh and I am using an AR-15 with XM855 rounds. Nothing fancy.

Vortex makes a great budget scope.

Making sure your scope is in the rings correctly is important.

I'd look at vortex as well. My boss has the strikefire ii. Loves it. Im sure they have some magnification options in your price range as well.

I assume you are wanting precision, but if this is a "battle rifle" you don't need magnification at under 300 yards.

Id go with the vortex strike eagle if you can find one in stock anywhere, its a bit more than you want to spend but a great optic and very versatile with a 1-6x at a good price for that range of magnification. The vortex diamondback hp 2-8x is also a good option and can be had under $200. Hard to beat the vortex VIP warranty too.

I was just using my Banner scope this weekend. I bought mine a couple years ago for well under $100, but now it seems they are expensive. http://www.amazon.com/Bushnell-Mil-Dot-Reticle-Riflescope-6-24x40/dp/B000GEWB52

I've seen better prices around, but nothing as low as I got it for awhile back.

It reviewed great back then and my personal opinion of it is that its a great scope. Very well made and probably should be priced more like I'm seeing now.

I have it on an smith & wesson MP15 and at 100yrds laying down with the rifle resting on a pillow I shoot 1-2" patterns with cheap steal cased ammo.
