Everyone wants this to be one thing or another thing exclusively, and I have to ask...why can't it be both a health issue and an access issue? And why can't a solution have reasonable measures drawn from both?

Oh that's right....not one inch. Jez, you'd think the government was coming for their cocks with that mantra.....oh, wait....

When you look at the actual numbers in this country, it is plain as day that guns are currently nothing more than a political argument. The United States has a violence issue. The so called "gun violence" problem is just deflecting from the major overarching issue of violence. Violence committed with firearms only accounts for around 8% of all violent crime committed in the U.S.

To some degree, yes. Does it stop it? No. Does it make it harder? Yes.

Does heroin restriction seem to be working?

In a manner of speaking yes. The nearest legal counterpart model you can look at to heroin is the prescription opioid market, which far exceeds the heroin market in terms of both new users and damage to society. Heroin use prior to the current opioid situation was fairly low - in fact any growth in the heroin market is directly linked to legal perscription of opioids. So yeah, restrictions were doing a good job of keeping the market small and legalization of a similar or substitute drug made it much worse.

I totally believe the fix for this will be multi-faceted. We ALWAYS focus on the gun. ALWAYS. Both sides are guilty of this. Let's fix everything, STARTING WITH THE ROOT CAUSE. These fuckheads didn't suddenly become crazy when they saw a firearm, they were crazy beforehand.

I think the 'not one inch' thing is there because gun owners continue to give and give with no end in sight. What's the end goal? At what point will the anti-gun crowd be satisfied? The answer is never, which is why the pro-gun folks take such a hard stance on giving nothing. There is no 'end' in sight. Everything is common sense to them. Common sense to them is no guns at all, they just won't say it out loud.

What a stupid position to take when you yourself are arguing for inches.

I'm learning a lot in this thread, all of you fuckers are actually arguing for more gun control, and your rabid opposition to it in the past has apparently just been because Democrats proposed it.

My point was that it's still a raging problem despite there being a total ban. It again goes back to the American mindset these days. People want what they want, immediately. I can't tell you how many people I run into in my profession that expect to be pain-free. That's not a reasonable request despite the average American thinking it is. We have this mindset that there's a pill for everything. I'm in pain, I take a pill. I still have pain, I take more pills (than the physician prescribes). Still pain? More pills. Oh shit, I'm now physically and psychologically dependent on them. I'll do that until I can't afford it anymore. Then I'll turn to heroin. From that point, I might have 3 years to live. Pain has never killed anyone. Heronin kills most.

Thank your .gov for the prescription drug problem.

I'm arguing for inches? I'm arguing to stop the bleeding, not put a fucking bandaid on it.

Inches, miles, whatever you're arguing for you'd be opposed to it if Democrats suggested it because "it'll never be enough for them," or something like that.

I'd never be opposed to it if it addressed the root problem.

Honest question. What do you propose?

Well everything looks either blue, green, or brown from space. If you zoom out too far you lose the detail.

Large scale voluntary disarmament.

In terms of government solutions, there aren't any.

While I agree that might work for preventing GUN violence, I don't see how that is going to prevent violence in general.

Also, If all of mine are secure in a safe, why should I have to give them up?

I also agree that there are no .gov solutions.

I'm all for taxing guns and ammunition sales to fund mental health similar in the way gas is taxed for infrastructure.

Not a be all end all solution, but it's better than nothing. No one "gives an inch", just a couple extra bucks to go pew pew.

I have to ask, do you think incest, rape, and ambush insemination are things that only happen in the porn you watch and not real life?

How about this - the person whose body it is gets to make that call, mmmkay.

Get out of here with your libertarian ideas about abortion, Brandon's not interested.

I'm just doing what you guys do. Switch around your argument to create an argument.

Greg wants you to voluntarily give up your weapons for the greater good. He wants all Americans to give up their weapons so only military and police can have guns. Surely, nothing could go wrong. Greg has the best plan therefore he can criticize everyone else's because his is so logical and realistic.

You wouldn't win against them anyway. At best you'd put up a David Koresh style stand off.

Brandon wants me to think that all of the first world countries where civilian ownership of firearms is rare are totalitarian police states instead of the generally decent places to live that they are. Maybe he's forgotten that I have eyeballs and don't believe everything I read on infowars.

Can someone tell me the last time the US Military won a war against a guerrilla army? Seems to me that's been quite a big problem for them since, what? Vietnam? Korea? They have a hard time killing what isn't wearing a uniform.

cause 'mericans would be able to form a guerrilla army :dumb:
