Lauren
Speak to me about the 5.4 in a 2008 truck. What should I look for? How common are they to swap new ones in?
STEVE-O
Cam phasers and timing chains and spark plugs breaking off into the heads / thread
Franchi
Cam phasers and timing chains and spark plugs breaking off into the heads / thread Nailed it. And get a custom SCT tune written for the cam phaser delete kit if you go that route. Plus makes it better to drive.
TurboRust
800 dollar tune ups. Purposely bought 2 ford suv's in the last year an 04 navi with a 4v 5.4 and an 03 Eddie Bauer explorer with a 4.6. Because fuck ford 3v motors
Otis Nice
Lot of google-fu here. We had an '07 5.4 F150 from 2009-20013ish ACTUALLY being used to haul a 2500 lb trailer with TWO massey ferguson diesel tractors + bush hogs and tow on the reg and NEVER had a prob. YMMV. Not one single $800 tune up, timing chain, spark plug prob, or anything. Normal oil changes and nearly 100k of heavy towing with not a prob. To each their own I guess....I do love some good BBQ though, Derek, so don't discredit me...
Rocky31186
One of the worst ford motors made, nothing but issues. We are glad to be getting them out of our fleet at work.
Geeto67
Do the supercharged 5.4s in the 2007-2009 GT500s have the same issues?
Lauren
Thinking about a 08 f350 super duty with the 5.4. I need a hauler and tow truck. Perhaps I'll pass
iwashmycar
Sounds like at this point if you got one cheap enough youd just drive it without touching the plugs ect....listen to the always present clacking of exhaust manifold leaks ect. Lauren
It needs exhaust manifold gaskets for sure and a full exhaust. But I can get into it for $1400. Extended cab with minimal rust.
STEVE-O
Do the supercharged 5.4s in the 2007-2009 GT500s have the same issues? Completely different setup
Second Gen
Agree on the truck 5.4's and the spark plugs. Brothers friend had one and had to helicoil plugs three times.. Run Forrest..
