blue98ls1
My son's transmission just lost 3rd gear. I am looking for a used transmission for his car. Its a 98 Civic Hatchback. From what I am seeing it looks like you have to get a manual transmission specifically for a hatchback. Anyone know why this is?
greg1647545532
Is it a CX? The CX had different (loooong) gear ratios and was only available as a hatchback. That's the only thing I can think of that makes sense given the context. Any d-series transmission will bolt up, any 96-00 transmission will be plug and play. I believe there were 3 different gearsets (DX/LX, CX/HX, EX).
blue98ls1
Whats funny is when looking at car-part for example, it doesn't seem to matter the trim package, only if its a coupe, hatch or sedan. His is a CX hatch. Third gear is out, and there is only 1 place in Columbus with a transmission for it and they want $300. He is working part time at Jiffy Lube so if I can help him find one a little cheaper that would be good. The coupes you can pick up those for $150 but I want to make sure it will work for the car first.
blue98ls1
I called our local Honda dealership which wasn't much help, but they said in their computer system it says the transmission is hatch only. He couldn't tell me if it was a gearing reason or not it didn't give him that information.
greg1647545532
You'll be fine, they're all the same except gearing.
