Who has a helmet cam?

Yup 2nd one is still in the box though  I'm ordering extra mounts and the kids will use them at the dirt track and also use them snowboarding this next winter.

I've been looking for a good place to mount it. So far I have been using the suction cup on the sides. I'm looking to use one of the 3M sticky mounts like the j-shaped one, but I haven't had the balls to stick it to my windshield or anywhere yet.

I am getting a Hero Wide Angle very soon myself...for the bike and the truck.

I have been eyeing thm for a while now.

Anyone have a good place to get them from for the best price?

search on here, brandon (gixxie750) posted a discount code for 30 off a while back..the site also gives you a sd card, and rechargable batteries

I think I'm going to try the suction cup mount on the front of the bike today and see how it works out.

Yes...Please bring that along....I would love to check it out prior to the ride.

You are going correct?

Yah it worked fine. Only issue I seemed to have was one of the mount plastics screw ends a millimeter off my windscreen so every bump it was rattling against it which as annoying but that's about it.

As for batteries my energizer rechargables are only lasting 30 mins, but yesterday I tried some Energizer Lithium Ultimates and got 2 hours SO FAR out of them. Each 2GB SD card will hold about 60mins of video. Overall it seems to be a pretty good little camera.

I got a tank mount ordered.....gonna use my digital camera (which takes amazing vids) with it. If I decide i don't like that I'll get a gopro.

The bullet cams suck imo....too much trouble to turn on etc....the gopro is one unit which is nice.

Ok, so I have always been superstitious with having a mounted camera on the bike. But, being able to help riders at the track by showing them video is something I have been thinking about.

The GoPro is what is available at motorcycle shops and I can get the best price on. However, I think it is cumbersome and hard to mount...

I have been looking at Oregon Scientific's ATC3K and ATC5K. $150 and $200 respectively...

Also the Tachyon XC for $150 shipped...

Sounds that the GoPro is not as great as I thought and the ATC5K has a preview screen for help in mounting and seeing if it is positioned the way you want. No "point and pray" as they seem to say about the others.

I want to spend under $200. Anyone with experience with the other two?

My GoPro mounts (and unmounts) all over my bike with the suction cup attachment in under a minute. Changing the mount for different parts of the bike takes about a minute as well. Affixing the 3M sticky mounts only takes a minute. I'm really not sure it could get any easier.

Here's a link comparing 4 different cams: http://www.helmetcamreview.com/4camShootout.htm

As for mounting, I was thinking of cutting a small hole for the lens to look through on the upper fairing. Nothing more... I know they are all easy to mount, but close to a lipstick style would make it easier than the box style of the GoPro...

I know this probably isn't a track-ready solution, but I bought a Sony DSC-t90 point-and-shoot to use for helmet cam vids and it works quite well. Sounds stupid, but the camera is small enough that I can set it in my helmet and close the visor and it sits just below my eyes and doesn't block my vision of the road at all (I have to tilt my head down some to see my gauges but who cares?) and isn't annoying to ride with. It almost shoots along my exact eyeline and because it sits in my helmet, it doesn't get much wind noise and if I feel like it I can talk and it picks up my voice crystal clear, along with the bike noises and other ambient stuff. It shoots pretty nice 720p video and I can get 60 minutes on a 4gb memory stick (which cost me like 17$ with free shipping, you just have to know where to go) in two 30-minute video files. It's a really simple solution that doesn't take much effort or set-up, and it's also a damn nice 12.0 megapixel point-and-shoot to boot.

Just thought I'd throw the idea out there.

My instuctor at Mid Ohio had a GoPro on his bike, He sent me a video from when he was at Gratton and I found one from Mid Ohio. Might give you a better figure for what it does and looks like. Believe he had it inside the case and used the M3 mounts and a fixed mount with velco on the tank. I did notice that at high speeds it does seem to get a little distortion and has a "wave" effect.

His recommendations:

A 20 min session is about 1Gig - give or take.

Also you'll want to get some good rechargable batteries and a good battery charger.
