Suzuki TL Idling Problems

All,

I was back home in DC this weekend, trying to help a friend with his 1997 TL-S 1000. The original motor was blown, and it was swapped out for that of a 2001 TL1000R. It was running just fine, however now it will NOT idle, and I also think that the TPS is off.

Essentially, the engine will turn, and as long as you're on the gas it will stay alive. But go more than 5 sec. without throttle, and it will shut down.

Regarding the TPS, it sometimes revs higher than it should based on the amount of throttle being applied.

Plugs were changed, air filter cleaned, all sensors and hoses (that were noticed) were tightly connected.

It has a PCIII, however it seemed to run better (less backfiring) with it disconnected... It still backfires some as well.

Does anyone know of anything that we may have possibly overlooked to get this thing back on the road? Due to a host of other things, it's been out of commission for a little over a year now.

Thanks
