Lunatik3
Friend with 81 or 82 Maxim has problem where he can only ride for about an hour or so and then his bike shuts off. If he lets it cool it will start again and run for a while ending up the same. He said he thinks it's a coil issue. Any other ideas?
Sporty105
I use to have an 82 Maxim and my cousin has an 81 with the same issue. They think it is the coil as well. Not sure on a fix except a new/diffferent coil. Thats all i know for now.
Wheezle
A thought: see where the coil is located see if it's in a place that allows enough air flow to keep cool. The problem is def the coil overheating thus no spark. It's a saftey built in to the coil to reduce the risk of fires.
Sporty105
If i remember correclty, and that's a big IF, i think they were at the front of the tank or even slightly under it close to the frame. I'm going to see my cousin this weekend, i'll check with him and see if they have an update.
blake1221
Coil would be the first place i would check, then for a vacuum leak or vapor lock
Wheezle
Well you can nix the vacuum leak if you dont have erratic idle and backfires.
jreese86
I'll sell you a working coil. Only $1000. It even comes with a running bike attached to it.
