I just swore in!

Just wanted to share some of the excitement I have had, which has also made the recent stuff a bit more bearable.

I just swore into the DEP of the United States Air Force!! It is a really good feeling knowing what good will come from my enlistment. Just kinda sad Zach wont be here to enjoy it as he was one of my heroes I guess, I saw how proud he was being in the Army as well as a couple other close friends and it was inspirational. And I am really glad I am going through with this now.

I meant my son...duh...

he wants to be a firefighter. scarry thought, but if that is what makes him happy...

My hubby just said stay away from the 1s and 2s careerfields as far as possible. He is a 2A and hates it. If you plan on getting a good job when you get out (i know you are just getting in :-) ) you will be pretty limited. Also you will be jobbin', which makes it hard to do college while you are working.

My hubby said if he could do it all over again, he would stick with the 3 careerfield, which is support. He would be the one handing out towels at the gym and working on his masters degree...:D

I do hope you get what you want though. Everyone has different interest, and AC refueling sounds fun. I was able to fly in a refueler once and was laying in the boom box (?) while refueling F16s...supercool! The Reserves took Spouses up as a incentive flight.

Word of advice, if you have some tiem before you go do your swimming now if you REALLY want to do PJ. The best time to do it is to take the PAST test while you are in Basic Training since you will be running and doing push-ups and sit ups and all that every day anyways, you will be in decent shape. Combat Control is an other option, has less swiming involved but you still have to go through a lot of swimming.

Refueler should be fun as well as loadmaster! Good choices. The other jobs will be OK but you wont be flying like you will as a loadmaster or refueler. I used to be a crew chief and a "cop" in the AF. Crew Chief is fun, especially if you are a flying CC on heavies, but being a "cop" in the AF sucks.

I will be more than happy to help you out with anything you would like to know just shoot me a PM. Congrats on swearing in and im sure you will enjoy your time. Above all, have fun!

Not all 1's are bad jobs. You can get a job as an intel specialist and do school on the side. Depending on location, you will probably be working in an office environment. I'm a 9S100, and the particular job we do here at Wright-Patt is an office job, although many of my fellow 9S's work out in the field.

Ultimately the Air Force is what YOU make of it, regardless of your career path.

Good luck!!
