Econ Teacher Expirment

Got this in my work email this morning... Just wanted to share...

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had once failed an entire class.

That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".

All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.

The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little..

The second test average was a D!

No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that.

What a profound short little paragraph that says it all

"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

the example is full of holes, but I still enjoy the basic message.

calling it "Obama's socialism" doesn't show any bias at all!

and "Obama's plan" is clearly defined. Yes, THAT plan.

...I still disagree with the basic principles of 'pump-priming' economics, and 'redistribution of wealth.'

I agree that those principles don't work, but tax rebates and tax cuts are both examples of "pump-priming" and that's not new to the USA.

When So-And-So raised taxes on the middle class people screamed about unfair and we should tax the rich more! When NewSo-and-So says to tax the wealthy people scream that it's unfair and it punishes capitalism.

"You can please some people some of the time, but you can never please all the people all the time." It just so happens the people who aren't pleased are the loudest.

...so what would that make the student that dropped the class when he didn't like the class policy.

Don't like it...Leave. Always have that option.

I think thats just it...Obama makes it sound sweet...then when you don't drop the class, cause of the smoke and mirrors...Then u get F'ed! Literally...haha..

It's just funny how sooooooo many folks will disagree with all of his suggestions (because that's just what they are until action takes place) and these same people could have done a hell of a lot more than just vote (if they did that) to get the person they felt was best for the job (shit, they could have ran themselves).

So, I say if you don't like what's going on, LEAVE. Who say's you have to stay in the US? From what I hear other countries have better riding anyways...hell, I might leave just for the better riding.

So we are supposed to leave and come back everytime a new pres comes into office? NO... I'm just hoping he can't change as much as he wants to in 4 years... That is all ;)

I think there's room for debate as to whether a 'cut' that takes us back to a more normalized and equal tax rate for everyone is really a cut. If X raises taxes, and Y brings them back to the same level they were prior to X's tax hike, is that still a true 'cut?' I don't want to debate the question, but I think it's worth asking. I'll ask another as well - did the tax rebate do anything to stimulate the economy? I spent mine on trackdays. seriously :-p

It just so happens the people who aren't pleased are the loudest.

I think that's a point very much worth reinforcing. Americans are too happy to remain ignorant on politics until something affects them in a tangibly negative way. We get what we ask for...

as key as Ohio is for gaining electoral votes, I have questioned whether I should have cast my vote for Bob Barr, or essentially voted 'against Obama' by adding one more tally to McCain's ticket...

Hopefully Americans learn quickly. "it takes a Carter to elect a Reagan."

our failure as a country will stem from a 2 part system.

funny that you typed this while I was typing my reply referencing voting for the Libertarian candidate.

this "it's a 2-party system" attitude is what KEEPS it a 2-party system. vote libertarian :D

You can come and go as you please, just bounce around to different countries that you believe 100% in their leadership.

Hopefully, he changes something because where we were was not good before he got to office either. (I'm not saying just ANY random change or the shit he's trying to change would be for better in the long run, but he's definitely not in the position of "If it's not broke then don't try to fix it.")

Not at all, it's the "I'm uneducated on the candidates so I believe only Obama and McCain are the options" that keep it a 2 party system. That and people who staunchly classify them as a "republican", "democrat", "liberal", "conservative", "green" etc....

You must be willing to evaluate each candidate on their own merits, and they need equal representation in the media... but that requires money.

redkow you may be the most qualified person to be president, and 100% of the population may agree 100% with your beliefs, but A) you'll never get on the ballet and B) noone else will know about you :( UNLESS you attach yourself to a large large large group, or are a billionaire, in which case, can I borrow some money?

That's a great point! Where are you (I'm referring to a general you that is complaining) going to go? Find me a country you believe 100% in what they are doing and I'll call you a liar.

In practice, most of the libertarians I've met are essentially republicans who either a) smoke weed, b) don't totally hate gay folks, or c) believe the government should be abolished so we can all be like Daniel Boone or some such (because fire and police departments interfere with the natural order of things and keep me from reaching my real potential, man!!!).

Any of these would make them somewhat more tolerable than republicans, except for the whole Ayn Rand-worship thing.

Seriously, fuck Ayn Rand.

Although I do agree that more viable parties is a good thing.

EDIT: Oops, sorry Fusion, I was half-ass reading and didn't realize you'd already said what I was about to say. Oh well.
