jessecwalters
Just wondering what everyone uses and how/where they put it. I want to attach my phone to my bike some how so I can use the gps navigation on it. I was looking at tank bags and triple tree bags, but theyre all expensive. snodgrass23
I just installed a RAM system over the weekend. It came in three pieces. I bought the cradle for the GPS, the mount for the bike (a triple tree mount), and the connector between them. Each piece was @$9-13. A good thing about this system is if I decide to use a different GPS, or want to mount my phone, I only need to get the cradle and can use the other two pieces already on the bike. If I want to mount it in a different location, I can get another one of those and use the rest of the system as well. Here are the exact pieces I ordered:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00121MYE6http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001RHVS8Ihttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WJ90K0Here is a good video about using the mounting piece.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91fRWdWb5mYHere is a picture of it after install over the weekend:
jblosser
***edit*** nevermind, snodgrass posted while I was typing. His find is cheaper and looks better than mine.Uncle Google offered this:http://www.amazon.com/Adjustable-Mount-Motorcycles-Camera-Player/dp/B002GTK89Q$35 +$10/shipping.Haven't tried it, so....You could always try clear duct tape: http://www.amazon.com/3M-2120-Transparent-Performance-1-88-Inch/dp/B0000DH8I8 Edited March 30, 2010 by jblosser see body of post
magley64
I used a suction cup mount on the tach of my bike (don't use the tach much anyways, and it was quick) stuck the whole way to LA and back through some crappy weather.
snodgrass23
Uncle Google offered this:http://www.amazon.com/Adjustable-Mount-Motorcycles-Camera-Player/dp/B002GTK89Q$35 +$10/shipping.Haven't tried it, so....I looked at these, but they had the same issue I have with just sticking the GPS in the top of the tank bag like I've been doing. It is just too far out of my line of site. It's probably ok for something with a more relaxed riding position like a cruiser or maybe even a sport tourer, but I had look down way too much on my sport bike. I didn't like taking my eyes that far off the road.As a follow up to my other post, here is a list of some of the different mounting options they have with the RAM mount system (including a suction cup mount like magley64 mentioned using)http://www.gpscity.com/search/q=parts+b+size/m=1&s=4&c=RAM+Mountshere's a video about their arms and shows the suction cup mounthttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDoml1Ngje0Another popular type of mount using the reservoir bolts on the handlebars.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0NwXUydDno Edited March 30, 2010 by snodgrass23

I ended up buying a tank bag that I could put it in, cuz i need it for this weekend.
AOW
hmm, last I checked phone gps systems only work assuming you have a cellphone signal. Standalone GPS is your better choice. I've never owned a motorcycle specific gps and have never had a problem. Quite a few inexpensive units on the market from $50 to sky's the limit. If you're trying to use Google Maps on your iPhone, yeah it needs signal to download the maps. However, there are multiple other apps you can buy that include all map data and only use the cell service to search for POI's. I'm sure Android phones and others also have similar abilities. Likwid
Mine's on the left side of my handlebar, just below the mirror.
jessecwalters
i will have to look into the cheap gps systems then, or some of those paid apps, because the way google maps takes you sometimes is retarded. And from what I know you cant adjust it to go a certain way, or not that Ive found atleast. You have the names of the gps apps by chance?? mikebmeehan
The GPS I use is TomTom Rider 550. It has a wide array of features that mounts the GPS with the RAM mount. So far it is a good GPS.
