cfd37buckeye
Leaving CMH on Sunday for Vegas. DO NOT book through orbitz, expedia or any other online travel rape site. Take half an hour a day and sit and search the sites for best airfares. Personally I never fly anything but Southwest. NYNY is nice, we stayed there once. We almost always stay at the MGM Grand, but this trip we are staying at the Monte Carlo. We have not paid for a room in 9 years, and there is only one way to do it. Find a Hotel/ casino that you like, and wold like to stay at on your next trip. Sign up for the players card, and stick it in every machine you play, every table you sit at to play, and if you lose it, get it replaced at the players club. The casino tracks your coin in to rate your play and give you comps. Table games are rated per hour, based on amount bet per hand. The strip hotel going rate is $25/ hand to get rated. That is why slots are a better bet if you are looking for freebies. Stuff to do other than gamble? Drink is my #1 priority....other than that, since you are a first timer, the strip hotels are modern marvels themselves. The architecture is incredible. If you want to ride, there are several places to rent bikes. We rented a new Road King from LVHD for $100 for 5 hours, and rode out through the Valley of Fire State Park. Awesome ride, came back on the western shore of Lake Mead. It was in October, and one of our favorite trips. I could talk forever, if you have any questions, feel free to PM me. cfd37buckeye
Drinks? Check out Diablos Cantina in front of the Monte Carlo, the PUB in Aria has nickel beer at the bar from 9 to midnight every Tuesday. Ellis Island has the best steak special, that is not on the menu, and a mighty fine micro brewery. Downtown, Binions has Bennys Bullpen where you can get a pizza and a pitcher of beer for $10. The Golden Gate has a shrimp cocktail that is huge for $1.99. The Peppermill up by the Riviera is pretty good eats too. We have eaten at the expensive places before, they were good, but I like to use my cash for fun.

Cheech
You're going for a week? A week in Vegas for me is 4 days, 3 nights, leaving as early as possible on the 4th day. I tried staying longer than that, and by the 4th full day my body just started to shut down.Again, the guys I went with hit it and hit it HARD, so your mileage will vary. I will second O'Shea's, it's connected to the Flamingo as I recall. Decent cheap games, I kicked the bachelor's ass in a game that resembled Texas Holdem but I was able to play it while pretty well intoxicated. Another one of our party disappeared with 2 cougars, the last communication we had from him was a one word text message 1.5 hours later - Threesome. cfd37buckeye
Yeah, drinks are free in the casino, but if you are lucky enough to be able to gamble 24 hrs a day while you are there, then I want a job like yours. It doesn't matter how much luck you have, you will eventually lose your ass for a streak, and want to get the hell out of a casino. I agree with Cheech....a whole week will definitely take its toll on you. Don't know what it is about Vegas, but in a 4 day trip, I will pull at least 2 24 hour days, then lose consciousness on the plane on the way home. I am not beyond scoping out a waitress, and sticking a dollar in a penny machine to look like I am playing to get a drink

Well, I was going to say a high oxygen environment, but a quick look through the tome of Google shows I am wrong. I can absolutely say that they pump specific scents through the casino, one walk in Mandalay Bay will confirm that. That being said, I don't know what it is about Vegas either. They actually do pump scents in. I can't remember which one it is though. I wanna say cumin.edit... it is cumin. They say cumin lowers your inhibitions. Hmm.... Cdubyah
I think we are going to stay at the Monte Carlo.Pros, and Cons from anyone?
Cheech
I think we are going to stay at the Monte Carlo.Pros, and Cons from anyone? It's an older hotel, but I don't think you should have any problems. Looking at maps.google, it looks like it's off-strip, so you should save a little coin there as well. If you don't want to take cabs all the time, be prepared for some serious walkin'. It may look like you're only 2000 feet from the Strip, but there's no easy way to get there. Since you're right across the highway from the In-n-Out, you should probably check that out as well, I'm told the burgers are crazy.
Cdubyah
I'm gonna have to check that map again, I thought it was right on the strip. Average cost was $66 /night, and it received a four star rating.Plus it was a little more centered than NY NY.

You'll have to walk around it if you want to get to Las Vegas Blvd. by foot.

Cdubyah
Wow, google maps is rather confusing. Looks like the monte carlo sits north west of NYNY. So it's back off the strip a bit.Maybe the parking lot is behind NYNY. Confusing for sure.
phop5
I'm going in October......no doubt Southwest!!! If you are booking now; hotelS on the strip are reasonable; they may want you to pay first night.
