My grandpa sent this to me in an e-mail. I could see very stupid/naive people falling for this.

Hotel/Motel Scam (This one is so simple it is shocking)

ANYONE traveling should be aware of this one

This is kinda scary if only because of how simple it is.

You arrive at your hotel and check in at the front desk. When

checking in, you give the front desk your credit card (for all the

charges for your room). You get to your room and settle in.

Someone calls the front desk and asked for (example) Room 620

(which happens to be your room). Your phone rings in your room.

You answer and the person on the other end says the following,

'This is the front desk. When checking in, we came cross a problem

with your charge card information. Please re-read me your credit

card number and verify the last 3 digits numbers at the reverse side

of your charge card.'

Not thinking anything you might give this person your information,

since the call seems to come from the front desk. But actually, it

is a scam of someone calling from outside the hotel/front desk.

They ask for a random room number. Then, ask you for credit card

information and address information. Sounding so professional that

you do think you are talking to the front desk.

If you ever encounter this problem on your vacation, tell the caller

that you will be down at the front desk to clear up any problems...

Then, go to the front desk and ask if there was a problem. If there

was none, inform the manager of the hotel that someone called to scam

you of your credit card information acting like a front desk

employee.

Anyone that falls for this deserves to have their money stolen.

no shit. if someone is dumb enough to fall for this, then id be curious as to how they made it through life without wandering out into the street in front of a bus.

i saw a thing on the news a while back about some guy who lost like 10 grand on one of those "help me get 50 million out of nigeria" scams. he just kept sending them money every time they asked. what a fucking idiot.

I always ask when I make payment on my car when they had ask for that number. They said it was for security purposes and they did not actually need it. So no problems since with out giving them my number on the reverse.

Never ever tell anyone the three freakin' numbers on the back of your card...

Hell, I had the phone company ask for them on a payment, and I wouldn't do it.

Told them I'd call them instead. Just not taking a incoming phone call that far.

Actually, incoming phone calls that ask for a credit card number get me amused.

Just too many scams on incoming phone calls anymore. It's a huge percentage.

Turn them all down, all of them, no exceptions.
