Yep sort of like when leaning over on your bike, you ride up the side of the tire effectively reducing the size of the circle. So you need to give a little gas to spin the tire a little faster in order to maintain your true speed (preventing engine braking) through the turn. A theory I read from David L Hough's "Proficient Motorcycling"
