shadyone Posted May 4, 2012 Report Share Posted May 4, 2012 My question is The piston im planning on using in my cr250 has been used already (and I assume that its the one Hellmut was planning on using when he had the bike) but is it ok to use a piston with some build up. it doesnt seem like it wants to come off. or should I just get another one? ReconRat Posted May 4, 2012 Report Share Posted May 4, 2012 (edited) Used piston, new rings. Check fit and function of rings. Check fit and function of piston pin in piston. Check piston for cracks and damage.Soak in kerosene, Seafoam, similar gunk/carbon cleaners. Do not use caustics on aluminum. Scotchbrite pads or soft metal brush to work with.edit: there are dimensions to check for piston shape also. But the important part is cracks, and the nice square/sharp edge of the bottom of the piston skirt.Cracks can be hard to find without using dyes and lights to find them.
