And we think our sportbikes have acceleration!

Dragsters can hit 200mph in 2 secs, F1 cars can accelerate to 200mph in tenths of a second... Note to self: Sell Motorcycle, Divorce wife (Give her the children), Save $7 Million, Buy F1, Play with F1, Wreck F1, Collect insurance, Buy Ducati Panigale...

Dragsters do 0-300 in the quarter mile in more like 5 seconds. F1 cars are indeed the fastest road course machines, but they are not king of acceleration.

My guess is that a zx14 blows away that Duc as well, and a purpose-built drag bike would have easily kept pace with the F1 car for a fraction of the cost.

THAT is always a bike's advantage. Cost to speed ratio.

The ZX14 and the Panigale in a drag race would be very close. I think the ZX would take it though, as much as that's hard to admit. You would need a pro driver to truly get the most out of either of them.

Rickey Gadson rode the 2012 ZX to 9.47 sec @ 152.83 mph for Cycleworld.

0-60@2.6 sec ; 0-100@4.8 sec

Steve Rapp rode the Panigale to 10.0 seconds flat at 144.9 mph for Motortrend

0-60@2.7 sec ; 0-100@5.1 sec

That's cool. I was looking for official tests and those where the easiest reputable numbers I could come up with. The ZX is a claimed 15hp more than the Duc also so I would have expected that. Ducati's have never really been known as a drag bike.

Their brakes operating temp is 604 to 1832 degree farenheit. (300-1000c)

Can stop from 124mph in 2.21 seconds, and 213 ft.

Can go 0 to 100mph then back to 0 in less than 5 seconds. (wiki)

My next car will be a honda. I've never had anything but ford and chevy. I'm done with them! They all suck so I'm going Honda next.

My commute car is an 01 ford escort, 35-40mpg all the time! A/C blows ice cold, great car! Beats driving my truck to cinci everyday!! She ain't pretty, but she gets the job done

I've been wondering about 0-60 times for bikes. 0 to 60 time for a Honda 919 is listed as incredibly fast, compared to other bikes.

0-60 on a bike is all about gearing. On a 1000cc or larger bike, there is no need for a 1-2 shift to hit 60, but taller gearing likely adds an unnecessary up-shift in the quarter mile.

So you can (generally) have to compromise one stat to rule the other. You can taylor a competition to suit virtually any vehicle and Taylor virtually any vehicle to suit a given competition.

Yes. Re-geared for quarter mile, with a few other mods, a 919 can hit 1.6-1.8sec 0-60 times on a drag strip. Quarter mile times around 11.1- to 11.2 sec @120mph. Lots of torque. Stock gearing is about 2 seconds slower on 0-60.

Magazine numbers (for cars and bikes alike) are always suspect to me. Many adjust for weather and track conditions to give a hypothetical best time, and they almost always run the bike in completely stock trim, don't do a burnout, and are on whatever tires came from the showroom floor.

For that video in particular, I am 100% certain the F1 car had tire warmers mounted prior to that run. The bike may not have, and I doubt it would matter that much, but thats the kind of variable that makes you wonder.

Plus the F1 car required a team of at least 5 guys to get down the track. Those cars are crazy complicated. One of my favorite episodes of top gear is Hammond trying to complete a single lap in an OLD F1 car. He had a rough time with the 2001(?) era technology. And they've only gotten faster and more digital in the last 11 or so years.
