Teknic’s Xcelerator gloves have been around for a couple of years now, but that doesn’t mean that they are outdated by any means. The Xcelerators are a nicely balanced pair of gloves that offer solid protection while still providing excellent feel.

This balance comes from the use of premium Japanese drum dyed cowhide for the upper and lighter, but very abrasion resistant kangaroo leather for the palm. Additional palm protection is provided by the 3mm Kevlar found throughout the heel of the palm and up through the pinky. As mentioned in nearly every glove review on the web, the instinctive reaction that most people have when falling is to throw their hands out in front of them. This means that the heel of the palm and wrist are especially vulnerable to injury. In order to help prevent injuries stemming from this kind of impact, Teknic added their patented Scaphoid Protection System (SPS) to the heel of the palm. These two hard protectors encourage the palms to slide instead of catching and directing the force into the wrist. Protection on the top half of the glove is provided by hard protectors on the wrist, knuckles and fingers that help disperse impact energy. There is also plenty of high density foam placed throughout the glove that helps with protection and comfort.

The Xcelerators are quite comfortable from the start and they don’t require much of a break-in period. The aforementioned kangaroo palm is a big part of this, but it’s not the only factor. Pre-curved fingers with side seams mean that you won’t have material bunching up and digging in when you’re on the grips. Teknic uses extra kangaroo leather that actually wraps halfway around the fingers from the bottom and overlaps with the cowhide coming from the top so that the seams can be sewn at the sides of the fingers, rather than the bottom corners like traditional seams. This makes them more comfortable and makes them less likely to come in contact with anything abrasive. Additional comfort comes from the low density foam lining large sections of the wrist, knuckles and fingers.

Top of the line gloves from most brands carry price tags that aren’t for the faint of heart, but that is not the case with the Teknic Xcelerators. They offer a lot of bang for the buck, so be sure to get in touch with Nathan if you’re interested or have any questions. Teknic Xcelerator gloves come in black, as well as white/black.

The palm of the Teknic Xcelerator uses kangaroo leather so that they can provide a high level of abrasion resistance with lighter and thinner material. The palm also features scaphoid protection and hidden Kevlar reinforcements.

There is no lack of protection on the top of the hands. Hard armor is found on the fingers and knuckles. Pockets of high density foam also help absorb impact energy.

Wrist protection comes from a hard protector and plenty of energy absorbing high density foam pads.

Those look pretty nice.

I've been less than pleased with the long-term fit/finish of my A* SP-1's and have been eyeing the Held Phantom's after trying on a pair at Mid-O a few weeks ago (super comfortable). How would you rate these relative to the Helds for comfort & durability?

Also, I wouldn't mind getting an idea for pricing for a pair in Large/Black.

Thanks!
