Anyone knowledgeable in this. Got a project bike. Dt400. Motor turns over pretty easy, gas tank seems OK but it's been sitting for 20+ years. I'm cleaning the Carb this week and going to start cleaning/restoring the bike. I was told this bike had points and I am uninformed on this subject. Any help is appreciated.

Points and condenser kits are normally cheap. You set the gap when piston is TDC, normally. Really easy. They say you should not file or sandpaper the points. It removes a coating and they wear down quick.

I just recently replaced the points and condenser on my boat. Super easy to do and its cheap. My boat ran before i done this just not as well as i thought it should. After changing them it was night and day difference. Your points definatley need routine maintenance. At the very least set your point gap. Being that your unsure of the age of the parts i would just replace both of them and set your points to factory spec.
