Motor turns over pretty easy, gas tank seems OK but it's been sitting for 20+ years. I'm cleaning the Carb this week and going to start cleaning/restoring the bike. Gump Posted September 4, 2012 Report Share Posted September 4, 2012 (edited) Points and condenser kits are normally cheap. You set the gap when piston is TDC, normally. Really easy. They say you should not file or sandpaper the points. It removes a coating and they wear down quick. 20thGix Posted September 4, 2012 Report Share Posted September 4, 2012 I just recently replaced the points and condenser on my boat. Super easy to do and its cheap. My boat ran before i done this just not as well as i thought it should. After changing them it was night and day difference. Your points definatley need routine maintenance. At the very least set your point gap. Being that your unsure of the age of the parts i would just replace both of them and set your points to factory spec. Gixxus Christ! Posted September 4, 2012 Report Share Posted September 4, 2012 I have dressed my points with krokus cloth and cleaned afterward with carb cleaner before, no ill effects.
