Using a Soundbar with Home Theater

ALSO: I don't understand how a receiver set-up even works. Does it hook into the digital optical out on the TV and just broadcast wireless to the speakers?

And am I wrong in this, or with a HTiB are you paying mostly for the Blu-Ray player? And that's still the best way to go starting out?

I just don't understand all of the dynamics of how it all works. It sounds like you upgrade it part by part as you go along?

here is a similar one to what I have. The sub has an adjustable knob so you can turn it up/down with ease depending on your situation. Easiest way is by using HDMI cords and routing it all through receiver

pretty much all your peripherals hook to the reciever and you can use a single hdmi cable to the tv from the receiver and bingo. Onkyo has excellent set up instructions even for the noobiest of noobs

Ooh, okay. See, I was thinking these speakers were massive or something. I never thought that they'd be like computer speaker-sized.

And so they aren't wireless? Completely HDMI-wired?

And how is the bass on a system like that? Does it suck like A LOT, or decent for the price?

The wiring to the speakers is typical speaker wire. HDMI cables are to transmit video and sound

I'm assuming thats the same sub that I have in my system and it is in my basement. If I have it turned up all the way and have the music half loud, you can hear the bass from my 2nd floor bedroom.

Massive ghetto trunk rattling bass is annoying and unnesscary, complimentary bass is what you should be looking for

you can find wireless speaker systems I'm sure but in the past I've heard mostly negative reviews so never even bothered looking in to them

Sorry...please tell me you don't sell these at Best Buy?

Haha, yeah we do. What is the problem with that?

But I think I've decided I'm going to return the sound bar. Apparently, I'm able to get Klipsch's Quintet system. And then I need a good receiver and an even better sub.

Suggestions on how to go about this?

he meant you personally being in the home theater department since its clear you aren't knowledgeable in that area

can't help you on suggestions without a price range but if you feel like doing some reading and learning:

Oh hell no. I work in computers, which I actually DO know quite a lot about. (I'm going into Computer Engineering, and have been programming/messing with computer innards since I was 9.)

Home Theater-speak is completely foreign to me, though.

I'm looking at these:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Klipsch---Quintet-5-Channel-Home-Theater-Speaker-System/9388833.p?id=1218096958259&skuId=9388833#tabbed-customerreviews

Now what do I look for in a receiver? All I know is they're the "CPU" of the operation?

sw450 is over kill to be honest. go with the sw350. I have the quintet IVs (pictured). Get a mid range onkyo or Yamaha receiver. I dont know the current model numbers but should be a TSXR-60something. Not too expensive and great features. FYI this is my setup at home lol.

I love me some pre-Best Buy Klipsch.

I have a 5.1 system that's oh....about 16 years old?!? Still sounding great.

My dad has a pair of Klipschorn's. I try not to fap when I go over his house.

Is the big thing about Klipsch right now the horn system? I've read a bit about that recently.

I don't know about the horn system or anything but just listening to them you can hear a difference. I have a 2.1 set for my computer, you probably sell them actually. Those will shake things in my room if I crank the base up, and its clean which is a trait of klipsche.

Oh yeah. We have a ~$150 computer speaker set-up that we always crank after closing. That thing is a boss.

And I've come down to this being what I'll be getting:

Subwoofer - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Klipsch+-+10%22+450W+Powered+Subwoofer/9502488.p;jsessionid=37DB6E0FD8AE359CA0CA53AA7FFD9445.bbolsp-app02-52?id=1218115619909&skuId=9502488&st=sw%20450&cp=1&lp=1

Surround sound - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Klipsch+-+Quintet+5-Channel+Home+Theater+Speaker+System/9388833.p?id=1218096958259&skuId=9388833&st=klipsch%20quintet&cp=1&lp=1

Receiver - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Yamaha+-+875W+7.2-Ch.+A/V+Home+Theater+Receiver/4566061.p?id=1218487070128&skuId=4566061&st=rx-v673vl&cp=1&lp=1

(Now, on this receiver it says "125 watt x 7 power". Since my sub will be in the wall for power and it's 450-watt, that doesn't mean anything for it right?)

I'm probably going to be kicked out of my apartment complex if I put that sub too high, but I'll keep it low until I get my own place. I'd like to buy all of this and keep it for a while.

All of this will work together correctly, though, right?

(And a BIG THANK YOU to all who helped out with this. Long thread for a simple decision, but it's much appreciated. I'm an undecisive person. :p)
